I have one of the first ones and find it not particularly effective on my long haired cats.

The second comb is a combination flea comb - the narrow teeth trap fleas and you are able to comb them out of the coat and drown them in a cup of soapy water. I use this regularly even though the cats don't have fleas because they love the sensation of the teeth going through their coats and their skin. It is a great way to get rid of a lot of excess shedding fur, as well, but you have to be careful with long coated cats as it can pull if you reach a thick spot or a mat and hurt;

The third is a general brush and I use those too - especially for the long haired cats - who also adore being brushed. It is good for getting the shedding hair and the cats love how it feels around their chins and cheeks.
A hair brush designed for people is just as effective.

Hope this helps:-).

I agree with Kathryn about the first brush shown. That is called a slicker brush and is pretty ineffective for long haired cats. However, it works very well for short hairs! I used a comb similar to the second picture and also a bristle brush. It's kind of like the third picture but I don't like the wire side of that brush. It tends to pull the long haired cats coat and cats skin is much more sensitive to touch then (for example) dogs.
