How many of you have your cats registered?

In my area, it is a one-time registration that you keep in good standing by having current vet records. It costs $11. Nano is supposed to wear a collar at all times, but I relax off of that and only make her wear a collar (which surprisingly she accepts) when we are going to the vet clinic. If she were ever caught without her collar, I would tell a white lie and say she must lost her breakaway collar. But all of the paperwork is legitimately in proper order if there was ever a dispute.

So how many of you have your cats registered?

If you're talking about city or local licensing, yes, mine are registered.

Licensing laws vary by location: in my city you have to register both dogs and cats annually, with each rabies vaccination - it's $5 for altered pets, $20 for intact pets.

Cats don't have to be registered (licensed) in my county, as dogs do, but Jamie is tattooed and microchipped, and his data is in two German and one European registry. It's now mandatory to have all dogs, cats, and ferrets tattooed or chipped, and to have a pet passport with up-to-date inoculations, if you travel with them from one EU country to another. Britain and Sweden have even more stringent rules.

In my city, you are required to register both dogs and cats. I do not register mine, as you must keep current on rabies shots. My cats are only indoors and have no contact with other animals, so I do not take the chance of any adverse reactions to rabies shots. Is this wrong??

I meant registered by the Animal Control Center in the city or local government of your area. This is for all cats.

(Sorry, I guess by confusion some people thought I meant microchipping or registering purebreeds with the proper groups.)

I don't think anyone is a bad pet owner for not doing it -- but Nano was a rescued stray so I wanted to formalize my ownership of her because her background is unknown.

I was simply curious about how common registering your pet with animal control was...

Ouch, I should have said "licensed" instead of "registered"...

Well, I really started a messed up thread. Sorry about that!

Mini will be going to the vet soon-that is another way for the government to get money out of me for cats that are strictly indoor cats. (spayed & neutered, too) But it's no big deal, maybe 7 dollars...

It sounds like our area, too. If you have to take them to the vet, they ask for proof of rabies shots, etc..Like for Mini, she had to have all of her shots before she got spayed. I have to take her to the vet soon & they will probably want her to get all of her update shots, blah, blah. For an indoor cat! Oh well, I am thankful that she is going for a checkup, it could be worse...
