We've been feeding and looking after a stray girl that wandered up to us very, very pregnant. Last time we saw her, she had a very enlarged belly, and we figured she was extremely close to having her kittens. This was about 2 days ago.
Tonight, she showed up mewing at the door; she's definately smaller, but still quite plump. She's running about and acting like her normal self... I did find one snippet online that said in rare cases cats can actually have a few kittens, stop labor, and have a few later; do you think that's likely in her case?
It certainly doesn't look as if she's been nursed, as her nipples are no more enlarged than they were a few days ago. If she had a kitten or two, is it possible that either they were stillborn or she just abandoned them? She's young enough to be a first-time mother (and a last-time mother, as she'll be spayed as soon as any remaining kittens are weaned).
