One of the pregnant ferals_this is the wily female I talked about in another thread_is acting strange. If this cat wouldn't look so much like her I'd say is another one. Nerina has always been a hard feral.
Now she's friendly all of a sudden, yesterday and today she rubbed against me and let me pet her?? She's very pregnant (a basketball poor thing) so I can only think her kittens are on the way? I know housecats can get clingy when their time is due but past pregnant ferals weren't like that at all..Nerina is somewhat unbalanced I think..she abandoned her first litter to get pregnant again so I wonder if she didn't loose it completly this time..

There's no place like home
We had a feral do exactly that to us. She was extremely wily, would never enter a trap, disappear for long periods and come back in late pregnancy. She would rub against us in this state, and for a short time after her kittens were delivered. Once they were nearly weaned, she turned into a complete monster towards us and would abandon her kittens (we finished weaning more than one litter of hers). In the rare times we would see her not pregnant or nursing, she was a monster. Once we finally trapped her and had her spayed, she continued to be the monster. Her bad behavior was so odd that we thought she might carry rabies (she attacked anything around her).

I guess the point of this is that pregnancy and subsequent nursing can change their behaviors. It's interesting to hear that this happens to other feral cats - I thought mine was the anomoly.

Amy, it really is good to hear it happens with other ferals..as you know their hormones go beserk so no telling what they would do. I hope this time she'll take care of her kittens because she did leave her first one but fortunatly there was another nursing queen that adopted them. One of our kitties, we have 2 of their kittens, Clovis and Margaret. She had another litter last fall, sadly only one survived to weanehood but she cared for them allright. I didn't see her today so maybe she gave birth..in what type of setting live your ferals? Noisy, otherwise busy place? This place is busy (by grain elevators, railroad tracks, lots of traffic) so I think that's what's affecting her behavior. The litter she cared for she reared in a decrepit house, not a good place but probably felt more protected..I'll try to locate her nest (hopefully one of the shelters)
Thanks & kudos for finishing weanig the kittens!
