There has been some strange man knocking on my door lately, and the door of the lady next to me. Really freaks me out. So I talked to Rob and said I wanted to get deadbolts put on the doors, since there aren't any locks currently, and also I mentioned being interested in getting a dog. Well, he called the landlord last night and talked to him. No on the dog, but he would put the locks on. Unfortunately, he has to do it. Won't let anyone else. Now, this sucks for several reasons. 1: He is not timely at all. And he will show up whenever, regardless of when he says he will show up. 2: I have two extra cats. So... any suggestions? I don't know when he is coming, he might put it off for weeks, like usual. And what do I do with the extra cats? Should I put them in boarding for a week or so? Should I lock them away when I'm gone? Should I call and tell him only to come when I'm home and let me know ahead of time? I don't think he will like that, but I don't know what to do? Or should I let the cats free and just tell him I'm babysitting them?

Suggestions?

tough situation!

I'd say you need to call him and tell him that since you're afraid because of this man knocking on doors, he needs to call you ahead of time before coming, otherwise, you may not let him in (or something like this).

What happened previously in similar situations? did you have extra cats? how did you handle it?

Amber, not to pry into your lease or anything, but aren't there rules in the state of PA that specify 24 hrs prior notice by Landlord? Or fine print on the back of your Lease? I don't know how close Latrobe is to a major city, but you should be able to get online in your County and see all the public infromation sites. That's just to let him know he might need to let you know. Then on to the other issues, if it becomes one, that is, timeliness. I know here in our state if we can show cause that we feel danger is imminent or can document some sort of relief necessary to alleviate the implied presence of unauthorized entry or imminent danger, then we need no notice to change our locks if renting. Just a thought but I'm unsure how it is there......

If he knows about one of the cats tell him to come when you're there b/c you don't want to risk the cat getting loose. Then you could hid the cats in an extra room. Boarding sounds like a good idea. I'd make sure he gets it done with in the week. Bug him until he does it. It worked for my old land lord.
