Hi all, been here before about my cat's behavior. Well we found out she is pregnant but now she isn't barely eating anything. She eats some at night but hasn't been going to the litter box because I don't think she is eating or drinking enough. Is this normal? She is about 5 weeks pregnant. She is also acting really strange. Like everything and every little move anyone makes really scares her.... to the point of her jumping up in the air. I'm worried that she is going to hurt herself or the babies inside. Any replies would be TREMENDOUSLY helpful....

It is perfectly normal. Some cats stop eating prior to labor, others eat right up to the first contractions. Be sure that she is in a nice, dark quiet room, and she has several nests available to choose from- though she will probably choose your sock drawer! LOL

she isn't ready to deliver yet tho. I'm worried because she is not eating well and is only 5 weeks pregnant. And is acting so scared of everything. Is this normal pregnancy behavior?

Honestly? Not in my opinion at this stage in the pregnancy. I would certainly go ahead and get her settled in a quiet and private room if possible, and really track her box use and amount that she's eating for the next day or two. Tempt her with her favorite wet foods, and if she's still not eating much or drinking much in a day or two at the most, I'd be at my vets with her.

Was this a planned pregnancy? Are you sure about how far along she is? Has she seen a vet? Is she eating anything at all? Any discharge showing, does she smell off or foul? For peace of mind, I would ring up your vet and talk to them.

yes this was a planned prenancy. She was mated the first week of March. She is eating and drinking at nite but not enough to be using her litter box. Because she hasn't went in there since yesterday afternoon.

Then to be safe, I would call your vet. I read you post while I was distracted. I apologize for missing how far along she is the first time. She is your cat and you know her best. Calling your vet and talking to him will put your mind at ease, or maybe he would like to see her? What breed is she?

How long have you noticed this to be the case with your girl? If it has been more than a couple of days, then you should probably consult your vet. I do know that some girls (mine is one of them) will get a little spooky about mid-way through the pregnancy and will go a little off of their food due to the added stress. I would give it another day - and if she hasn't eaten well by this time tomorrow, I think a vet visit may be in order.

In order for your pregnant kitty to get the proper nourishment and balance of nutrients that she needs for a healthy pregnancy, you need to immedately change her cat food to kitten food. She should be feed kitten food during her entire pregnancy and during the entire time she nurses as well. It is more nutritious for her than regular adult formula, and the added fats and vitamins will keep her healthier. This may help with her food issues. (when cats are pregnant they have cravings just like women do! they're hormonal
....and that may also explaine her added shyness and attitude changes over the last few days. Be sure to keep her in a cozy room by herself with plenty of comfy bedding so she can be comfortable in her surroundings, and when she chooses on a spot to deliever her kittens) If she will not eat the kitten food all at one time, gradually add a handfull in with her old cat food, and introduce it to her slowly, she she can adjust. Eventually, you should faze out the old cat food and have her eating kitten food during her entire pregnancy and the period which she will nurse the kittens. Also, a little trick i use sometimes when i am introducing my foster kittens to food is to open a can of tuna fish and pour the juice on top of the dry kitten food. They go crazy for it, hopefully your kitty will be gobbling her food down in no time! Be careful not to give her too much though, as that can upset her stomach.
As for the water, make sure that it is changed periodically throughout the day. Nobody, including a lovely momma kitty, wants to drink out of a dirty bowl. Since she is pregnant, make sure u leave out plenty of extra water for her so she stays hydrated. ( it is also not a bad idea to pick up some kitty vitamins at your local Petco or Petsmart...get that kind that you can mix on top of her food...or in her water...be sure to run that by your vetrinarian first before serving it to her.) and last but not least, have her checked out again by a vetrinarian. I would suggest getting her checked out to make sure she has no additional medical problems or infections (which is not uncommon in a pregnant cat..their bodies and immune system are changing to care for the babies she is about to deliever, so it can make her more supetible to colds or conditions.) And until she goes to the vet for another opinion...keep her isolated from any other cats or animals you may have in your home. That may put her more at ease. Well, good luck with your kitty, I hope everything goes well.

Just one caution, don't switch her food over completely all at once. She will get stomach upset and diarrhea if you do, make it a gradual change so her system won't go bonkers.

Our Roxxie is a persian. She has always been somewhat finicky so this is no suprise to me that she is worse now with her pregnancy. She has eaten a few times.... last nite and twice today. She drank a little bit of water too... so she did use the litterbox today.......... (sigh of relief) She is still not eating alot ... but she is eating.... but she is still acting pretty strange..... scared of everything around the house.... even her litterbox. I have to watch her and put her in there.... but otherwise she's doing better.... I will take her to the vet next week for an x-ray to see how many babies there are..... thanks for all the replies... they really help me alot.....
