My parents used these drops on all of our pets, and my cat Tigger started getting sick about a week after each application. At first we didnt know what it was, we didnt connect the dots. He would lay around all day, wouldnt eat or drink. After the first trip the vet said it looked like he got into something he shouldnt have, so we locked up everything we could think of that he could have gotten into. The second trip to the vet she said he might have gotten into something outside. By the third trip we had connected the dots and we asked the vet about the drops without mentioning that we used them. She said that they are very poisionous to cats and dogs and that she suggests that we dont use them. Well we live in the woods and if we didnt use something the ticks would eat our animals alive. We told her that everytime we used them he got sick. She said to try frontline because it isnt as bad for them. We have switched and havent had problems since. I was wondering if anyone else had similar problems.

Hartz is in the process of changing their formulas after multiple complaints have been lodged against them for cat deaths and sickness. The products you see on the shelf today- LEAVE ON THE SHELF! Only flea treat with product you get from the vet, even off the internet sometimes you run the risk of getting a bad counterfeit product that will do great harm to your cat.

Oh my! I wish I would have found this site sooner! I treated my cat with it a couple of weeks ago. Maybe that's why she wasn't eating much for a while...

Hartz products are harmful and they don't work. I would never buy any kind of medication over the internet. That's just too big of a risk.

My cat was treated at the vet with a tablet called Capstar and drops called Advantage. The fleas were gone within 1/2 hour thanks to the Capstar. Capstar attacks the fleas instantly and Advantage keeps them from coming back. Since you have outdoor kitties you would treat them once a month with Advantage (or a similar vet prescribed flea treatment called Frontline). IMHO that's the ONLY way to get rid of fleas. None of the over the counter products work. Some vets will give prescription flea treatment meds without charging for an office visit.

Are you talking about the same advantage (that is the name of the hartz product, Hartz advantage flea and tick drops) that I am? I am not aware of another product of the same name. I agree that Hartz products do more harm than good with most of their products, but this is just unacceptable.

I only use frontline that comes from my vets office on my pets. I have seen personally what it can do to furbabies, its terrible. There is nothing compared to the guilt you feel when you see your kitty's eyes glazed over, and too weak to even lift their little head up. This happened over a year ago to my Tiggy, but I had not seen anything on here about it, so I just wanted to get the word out, and see if other people knew/had problems.

I dont understant how a company could sell a product to consumers, that is soo bad for their pets. I mean they had to do tests somewhere, somehow, they cant say that it was a suprise when animals started dying!

The Advantage I'm talking about is made by Bayer and is not available over the counter. Hartz is a vile company for using the word "advantage" to deceive people and for selling ineffective products that are harmful to animals!

Thats scary....
I bought the Hartz Flea and tick medication for Leo ... I used it twice on him and he never got sick and he didn't stop eating either.. He did stop scratching though... Maybe it only effects some cats?
But that is scary.. I don't think I'll use the last tube on him this month. I can't stand the smell anyway. Especially when he curles up next to my face at night. Bleg.
Awww.. Im so sorry to hear that your kitties have been getting sick from the medication...

I wish Front Line wasn't so darn much! But hey.. I guess you get what you pay for, right?

I was stupid enough to use over the counter flea drops once. The brand i used was zodiac. It pretty much the same as hartz and has the same amount of compaints to go with it. Two days after i applied to sakura she started to try and rip out her hair on her back, neck and shoulders. I started find clumps of hair all over my carpets and she had bad scratches in the area that she lost the fur. That night we gave her a bath in warm water, no soap. She was much better after. Now i only use vet prescribed flea drops. She's much better with them.

I've had this thought for many years, because for many years I have heard complaints about variuos Hartz products: I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING HARTZ. Medicine or not. If I see a toy I like, and then I find out it is Hartz? It goes back on the shelf.
