Heaviest Cat: The heaviest recorded cat was called Himmy. Himmy weighed in at 21.3kg when he died on March 12th 1986 aged 10 years. New heaviest cat on the blcok is: Snowbie, who weighed in at 98lb (44-kg) in 1977. Snowbie is owned by Lorna Sutherland.

Smallest Cat: Tinker Toy, a male blue point Himalayan Persian cat who lives in Illinois, USA, is just 7cm tall and 19cm long.

Oldest Cat: The oldest reliably recorded cat was a female tabby called Ma, Ma lived to be 34 years old and died on November 5th 1957.

The all-time un-recorded senior-citizen cat record is held by Puss, a cat who lived with Mrs. T. Holway of Devon, England, until she died on November 29, 1939 just one day after her 36th birthday.

Update 14th December 2000: The Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that GRANPA was the world's longest-living cat and the Guinness award "worlds oldest cat" was given to GRANPA, in 1998. GRANPA lived to be 34 years, 2 months and 4 hours, and died on April 01, 1998. The previous record was 34 years and 1 day and had been set in 1957 by Ma from England. 34 years! That's 152 years old in human age.

Most Prolific Cat: A tabby from Texas, USA, called Dusty produced 420 kittens. She gave birth to her last litter on June 12th 1952.

Largest Litter: A Burmese/Siamese cat from Oxfordshire, UK, gave birth to the largest litter on August 7th 1970. She had 19 kittens!!! Four were stillborn.

Oldest Cat Mother: In may 1987 a 30-year-old cat called Litty had two kittens.

Best Climber: A four-month-old kitten from Geneva, Switzerland followed climbers to the summit of Matterhorn (4,478m) on September 6th 1950.

Earliest Cat to have a Name: The first Cat recorded as having a name was "Nedjem" (which means "star"), who lived during the reign of the Egyptian Pharoah Thutmose III in 1479BC to 1425BC.

Most Travelled Cat: Hamlet escaped from his cage on a flight from Toronto, Canada, and travelled 965,600 Km (600,000 miles) in just seven weeks, until he was caught in February 1984.

Richest Cat: Blackie was left £15 million in the will of his millionaire owner Ben Rea.

Most Expensive Cat: A Californian Spangled Cat was bought for the record sum of $24,000 (Approximately £16,000) in January 1987. Cato became the new holder for the Most Expensive Cat in February, 1998.

Longest Cat Snowbie, owned by Lorna Sutherland of Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, measured 103 cm (40.8 inches) from his nose to the tip of his tail, on November 21, 1997, when he was four years old.
