I didnt want to post this in the crossing the bridge part. My Dad rescued a mama cat and her 4 babies on Easter Sunday. The mama was sick with infection in her eyes. So, last Monday, we took the mama and the four kittens (Chewy (short for chewbaca), Rolly(because hes chubby), Squeaker (he squeaks), and kitten #4) to the vet. The vet tested her for everything and looked at the kittens and said everything was fine.
Last night, my sister called me all in a panic because Chewy wasnt acting right and he was cold to the touch. So, I race to their house, with a heating pad that works, after instructing them to put some towels in the dryer. I got there, and he was so cold. So I took him, put him on the heating pad, checked his gums and teeth, and they were pink. They said he wouldnt nurse, so I sent my husband and sister to get some KMR and I nursing bottle.
He was crying really loud, but his breathing had slowed down, and I kept petting him, and whispering to him, and my husband gets back with the stuff, and Chewy stops breathing. So, we tried to resesitate(? sp) him at the emergency vets instructions, but it was too late.
Chewy died.
I didnt save him.

For Chewy~ love tried to save you but you were called home

How awful! I'm so sorry you lost your little Chewie.
It sounds like you did everything that you could for the poor baby.

Diane, it sounds like Chewy was past being saved. Please do not blame yourself
You did absolutely everything you could and that is more than most people would do.
RIP Chewy

How are the other kits and mama doing?

Under the cats, mostly.
Aw honey, that must have been so awful... but you did everything you possibly could. Think... those kits had the best chance they could because you've all been so good and taken them in where no-one else would. Although Chewie is gone, he'll have known a loving home and he'll have been very happy. You've still got mamacat and the other three kitties to look after
They still need you and I know you're not about to give up on them. Chewie will be watching. I'm really proud of you beb... chin up for the rest of them eh?

Darlin', you did all that you could for Chewy, and that is all that anyone can ask of you, even yourself! It sounds like fading kitten syndrome to me, and I lost several of my baby Himmies to it, so I know what an awful feeling it is. {{{{HUGS}}}} for you and vibes and prayers that you won't beat yourself up too much over this. Just remember that he knew love and a safe, warm environment while he was here. If you want to chat, just PM me,ok?

Thank all of you for helping me through this. I dont really blame myself, now, I am just striving harder to get the other 3 to survive. I am sure the mamas malnutrition while pregnant didnt help any. It was just very hard for me, when I tried so hard. It made me appreciate all the bad little things my kittens at home do at 2 months. I am so thankful that they are healthy and rambunctious.
Thank you kittenkrazy, I will definitely do that when I am home and can be online longer than 5 seconds!
I just want to let everyone now how much I loved my little Chewy, but that my love for him will live on in his littermates. I guess that that was something worth leaving behind for him. I will be okay. Hes in a better place anyways. I didnt call him the troublemaker for nothing!

Mama kitty is ok...a little on the thin side, so Dad is trying to help her put weight on, and adjusted her diet accordingly. She eats, and eats, and eats, but shes still skin and bones. But the other 3, Rolly, Squeaker, and #4, seem to be doing ok. Squeaker and #4 are smaller, though. So, I am worried. I am not sure if we should also try and feed them the KMR and hopefully give them a better chance. We already put them on a heating pad with a low setting to help them stay warm. So, hopefully, they will make it. I am going to try my best,
Thank you for the kind words, that means a lot to me. At least I can realize now that I did all that I could do.
Thanks again.

Dear Diane --

You are doing a wonderful thing by helping this mama cat and her kittens. I know it is sad to lose a little kitten like that. I've lost several and sometimes through my own lack of knowing what to do.

At least you can take pleasure knowing the other four are doing well.

I'm sending prayers and good wishes for you and mama cat, Squeaker, Roly, and #4.

So sorry to hear about little chewy. You did all that could be done to save him. Please try not to feel bad. He is at the bridge now, safe and happy. Also there is still the mama and the other little ones that you saved. Hugs
