Hi,

I have 2 cats (a tortie, and a tabby) of course the tortie is the bossy one. The problem I'm having is the tortie won't use the litter tray for number 2s. She will for approx. the first two days and then not at all. She will do number 2s next to the tray nice a neat she will use it for number 1s. We have 4 trays and I clear them everyday and empty them completely once a week. She used the trays when she was a kitten not a problem there. We even tried different litter. Each tray had a different litter in it but that made no difference at all.

If you know why my cat is doing this can you please let me know? Its driving me crazy.

Thanks
Jules

has she been vet checked? if it hurts her to poop she might be scared of using the tray. do you think she might be constipated?

also has anything else around your house changed? cats are generally very clean animals so when they start to go in places other in the litter tray its a sign something is wrong.

has she been fighting with her sister? have their been any other stresses in her life?

maybe its a dominance thing?

Erik poops outside the litter when his tummy's upset, to show us that he's sick (really gross because whenever his tummy's upset it happens to be diarrhea...*shudders) Take her to the vets, and if she does it the day of your vet visit, take a sample along with you, that she has handily made easy for you to grab!

If she has been vet checked recently then add a bigger tray. I use the big slideouts you put under your bed to pack sweaters in.

Thanks you are right. A stray cat came into our yard (a tom who hasn't been "fixed") and that annoyed her greatly (understatement!!) but when she was a kitten she did have a hairball that was stuck (how painful!!). We put her on hairball dry food but I don't think that is enough. I will also try drops in her wet food. I had forgotten all about the stuck hairball. Of course it is so simple now. (duh at me!!)
Thank you so much and a big thank you for my tortie. She had been telling me for some time and I just didn't understand.

Thank you to everyone. Of course!!!!! I must be blind and stupid (ha ha). It is so simple now. I can't believe I didn't understand. I now when she wants a treat and when she wants to go outside (on her lead of course) but this one I totally missed.
