hi everyone!
i recently became the mother of Blue, a 2-3 year old male cat. I want to train him to use a litterbox with a top (with an opening on the side, of course). I've finally trained him to use the litter box without the top after 2 weeks. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? i trained him to use the regular litterbox by puttin him in the litterbox after he eats or drinks. i tried to do the same thing with the litterbox with the top but it is difficult because the opening is on the side. It is the same litterbox before, just with the top on. i appreciate any help anyone can give me...thank you!

first off, welcome to catsite!

i actually think you don't 'need' to teach him. If he understands what the litter is for, he'll know instinctively he'll need to go pee/poo on it. also, take the flap off the covered box for now, i think it will help him adjust better.

I changed sakura's litterbox a couple months ago. I just kept her locked in a small (but not too small) room with everything she needs (food water etc) until she used it a few times. It usually only takes a day. It has worked for me so far.
