Pamela, when you find out more about how to remove yourself from that, please do let us know. They have to be getting the info from credit reports or something, which makes me even more mad if they have access to those!
So far as I know, to get removed, you have to send an email to [email protected] and tell them to remove your info. You have to give them the full name, birthday, address etc. (check out their terms of use on their site for details) and you have to check every so often to make sure you haven't been listed again.

However, I find it a bit fishy that we have to give them MORE information before we can have our info removed so I am sending an email with BASIC information first asking to be removed and see what happens.. Will keep u posted.

OMG!

As someone trying to avoid contact with an abusive ex-boyfriend who has made threats to my life, I find this very disturbing. Unlisted phone numbers usually keep listings from showing on yellow-pages type search sites, yet this *&#*&^@$ shows addresses!

No more bother of going out and publicly requesting public records - easy fun for stalkers everywhere!

I agree- I find it very disturbing myself because I don't want public records on me since I had a stalker a couple years ago and think I lost him when I moved.. It's scary to think that anyone can access this kind of info without our knowledge/permission..

Same experience here, and he did "catch up with me" to a certain extent recently, meaning he knows what country I'm living in and attempted contact through an alumni site. I spent an entire day researching him on the Internet, and know how much his house is worth, where his daughter goes to school, etc., etc.. It's very disturbing.

THANK YOU! I had a stalker try to kill me 6 years ago. This didn't list my current address, but it did list my last one which can be traced to where I currently live.

That is pretty creepy..
We also have a website here for county court records where you can look up just about anybody who has been arrested around here, what they did, etc.. I'm even in there for a seatbelt ticket I had years ago.

Yep they have that for Orange County as well.

That's pretty funny that you're in there for a seatbelt violation. Though, you SHOULD have been wearing it.

My name & phone # are listed-no address which is good. I'll have to get myself removed from this site. There is a court website in WI were you can put a name in and it will tell arrest records stuff too.. (however I'm not in that site!!!)

It's more difficult in Germany than in the U.S., because the data protection laws are stricter, but it's still possible.

How weird... how does this zabasearch work? It doesn't have me at all, just someone else with a different middle initial. It has my dad's last address and my fiance's last few addresses.

Suggestions:

First, you should have your phone number unlisted/un-published. The phone company usually charged $1-$2 per month for this.

Second, avoid mailing lists and get yourself removed from junk mailers.

Third, OPT-OUT of every list you can. This is important. Your bank, credit report companies, companies you buy from -- they ALL will share your information with outside company unless you specifically tell them NOT to. This is how these background check companies get their info -- it's primarily from banks and credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, Trans Union, etc.)

Want help doing it? HERE YA GO: http://opt-out.cdt.org/

You can choose to do it using their secure server and having the forms pre-filled out for you, or if you don't trust they themselves, you can generate generic forms and fill them in yourself (with a pen).

And to freak you out even more....

Go to... http://maps.google.com
Type in your address, city, state and zip... click search
A nice map comes up...
Now over on the top right, click on "satellite"
A satellite image of your house will come up, and you can zoom in. Try it out. Pretty freaky eh?

Also when you renew your driver's license many states "sell" that list to marketing companies.
But on the other hand-as I work for a finance co-this will be a great collection tool!!

The satellite thing doesn't bother me. You've been able to do that for years. Google said that the images will be 6-8 weeks old, so it's not like someone can see if your car is in the driveway or if you're outside gardening in real time. THAT would be scary!

Actually, what's scariest is that the company that developed this software has had financial ties (backing companies) tied in with the CIA. You can read about that here at CNN.

Yeah, it's been around for years, but it's easy-accessibility wasn't as common as a google click away. Look up "jfk airport" and see what you get. So much for security.
