Thats how I basically feel lately. This temp job is burning me to the ground. I am working 6 days a week (Sunday is my only day off) and 55-56 hours a week. (10 hours monday through thursday, 9 hours on friday, and 8 on saturdays.) I'm not making nearly enough money, and they are seriously close to pushing my last button. They don't inform me about anything until after the fact or an hour before. Yesterday was the straw that broke the camels back, all they did was tell me I was in the wrong parking area (Yeah, thanks for waiting a whole MONTH to tell me that) and I wanted to yell, cry, and basically throw a fit. I have no life right now unless you consider 3 hours a day to myself to get everything done that needs being done. Along with that I'm feeling confused about how I feel for someone, isn't that the next best thing to add on top of everything else? lol. I took this coming Tuesday off so I can go to a job fair and hopefully get out of this mess.

Thanks for listening, right now my tooth is killing me, my head is pounding, and I am so ready for bed.

Ugh! I'm sorry about your job from hell! Unfortunately, temps sometimes don't get the respect they deserve. Hang in there & good luck at the job fair!

Meaghan, I completely understand as I'm going through some very similar things... though I must admit I don't work nearly those long of hours.

I think that's a great start by taking off Tuesday. And after you do go to the job fair, do something for YOU.

Whether it may simply be picking up a magazine and reading it with a pot of tea, or buying an accessory for (let's hope!) many future job interviews.

Trying to keep a positive outlook is really hard, I know, but you're truly making an effort, and seem to have already made the committment to get out of your current situation.

Cheers!

Oh I really like that thought. First and foremost, take at least 30 minutes for YOU. Take a time-out. Go to a body shop store or beauty store and buy small smaples of stuff that costs next to nothing, come home, light some candles and make yourself a spa.
I hope very much that job fair gives you a spark!!! (or some new spark plugs, for that matter!

Absolutely - take some time for yourself on Tuesday!

Being a temp is never easy - there's a certain psychological feeling that goes with the temporary status. BUT - it's always easier to find work when you're in work so hopefully something good will come up.

Sending lots of good vibes your way

I am so sorry to hear things aren't doing so well, and your working your arse to the ground and not getting nearly enough money. I know me saying sorry wont change anything, just like when things go wrong for me and people say sorry...it can be nice to hear it but yet it still doesn't help you.

I am not in the same problem as you but I want you to know that i know how your feeling. So your not alone and if you ever need someone to talk to that understands feel free to PM me anytime.

I am thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed you can find a better Job. Because it doesn't sound like working there is doing you any good. And it can be so important to have 'me' time, I also know what that can be like, not having time for yourself because your so busy with everything else. But I try and make time, somehow...although that doesn't always work and I have noticed when I have some me time it helps me a little.

I really hope you can sort something out so you have more time to yourself and your not working yourself to the bone.

Offering hugs and support

Eva

Well I went to the job fair today, there wasn't much there but I tried anyways. I don't expect to get anything soon. Although I did meet with the Roanoke County school district and left my resume. I just got back and within 1 hour the man called. He let me know that the aren't hiring for my position (teachers assistant) until June or July. Although he did tell me twice that he is "extremely interested" in me for this position! So hopefully I can get out of this position and find something to hold me over until they do hire. I just don't know how much longer I can hold on here, I guess until all our bills are caught up on.

There's nothing worse than being stuck in a job you can't stand, especially when the hours make it almost impossible to get another job. I'm sending vibes your way and hoping you get out of this situation real soon!

Is this temp job through an agency and, if so, can they get you a different assignment?

Yes I am with a temp agency, they could find me a job but there is one hitch. I have to quit before they can even search for me. So if I were to quit and all of a sudden they have nothing I can do, well, then I have no money for bills or food. So I basically have to stick with it until I find another job. And you're right, it is impossible to job hunt when you work these hours.

Now see, I don't want to quit because then it would be my problem, but I keep hoping every day they release me, so that it wouldn't be my choice to leave, if you know what I mean, lol. Unfortunately the Executive VP really likes me, so I don't think they will get rid of me.

Since the Executive VP really likes you, is it possible to talk to him/her about your working conditions?

Having to quit your present job before the agency will look for another assignment doesn't make sense. Is there another agency that you can use?

Everyone in Customer Service works these hours, so I couldn't be able to get less, especially as a temp.

About the agency, I'm not sure. I like this agency, but I just can't stand the job. I wish we didn't have bills for like, a month.

YES! Things are finally looking up for me! Today I decided I really needed to put in my one week notice because I am really getting depressed. I called the temp agency and told them, they said next Wednesday would be my last day. Well then I get a call about 4:30-5:00 and they want to know if it is at all possible I can work out my problems with the company. I said I would need less hours and another day off each week. The company likes my work so much they are only having me work 40 hours a week, 5 days a week! Thats 15-16 hours less then normal, and I get the full weekends off now, instead of just Sundays! I can definately do this until the contract is up. I want to thank everyone for all the well wishes!

Under the cats, mostly.
Hey sweetie, I'm so sorry you're feeling like this right now - but if it's any consolation... I'm in exactly the same position. I'm a single mum... which as some of you may know, is a 24/7 job.. with no pay and no quiet time to yourself! As for toothache, I'm suffering too at the moment, but not as much as I have been - I'm telling you, you can't beat Solpadol! Job hunting I can imagine is really tough when you're working those ridiculous hours that you are, but I've got my fingers corssed that you can find something better
Chin up and if you ever want to let off steam, you know where to find me
