just found a pile of kitten sick.

i'm assuming it was the kitten and not Maverick (his mummy) because of where it was, the fact it was only a small pile and because of its contents:

kitty litter and wet food.

the kitten seems fine. playful and bouncy as ever. the sick was dried so it could have been from yesterday.

also, it was behind the cat tower where the kitten likes to hide and Maverick likes to stalk him. Maybe he got over excited and threw up?

do i need to take him to the vet?

hold old is the kitten? if it's young, yes, they sometimes will ingest litter (haven't seen it myself, but read it here plenty of times). I dont' think vet is necessary, mauby a different type of litter.

he's four weeks old.

i just rang my vet and they said keep an eye on him but bring him in if i'm worried.

i dont think he was sick coz of the litter because he's eaten litter before (trying to littertrain him). maybe he ate too much?

mav has been reluctant to feed him as he keeps biting her so he's had to eat more wet food recently.

would you bring him in or wait it out?

Ok, first of all get rid of the kitty litter and start using either rabbit pellets (cheap and the kitten's don't eat them) or shredded newspaper. You kitten should not be eating enough litter to show up in emesis, and because it is, stop using it now. Yes it will smell a bit if you use shredded newspaper, but it is safer for the kitten. The rabbit pellets will mask the smell because of the alfalfa it contains.

Check the kitten for dehydration- lightly scruff the neck while the kitty is on firm ground, pinch lightly and release. The skin should fold down in seconds, if it stays tented up, get this kitten to the vet NOW.

What are you feeding and how much?

i might just take away the litter completley for a week or two as he shows no interest in using it whatsoever.

he passed the pinch test and seems lively and normal but i already booked him in for 6.45 tonight (earliest i could get)

it was only a few grains of litter in the vomit but because it was such a small amount (of vomit)it showed up (plus i had to clean it up and was examining it for clues as to who threw it up.

he's eating a little dried food, and a few teaspoons of wet mixed with water at night before bed. he's also still drinking his mums milk.

i was hoping the grainy litter would trigget of an instinct to use the litter but no luck. maybe 4 weeks is to young. though he does eat a lot by himself

just to clarify, the litter is plain clay, as natural and additive free as i could find.

and its not Mavericks litter tray, its a small one just for the kitten so i wouldnt need to worry about smell.

(mavericks tray is a huge high sided box in a special alcove. the kitten cant get to it)

Four weeks sounds at just the right age to BEGIN to litterbox train. Mommy normally shows the kitty how to use it. Perhaps if you didn't feed kitty anywhere near the litter box, he wouldn't compare the two, and think to eat his litter? Just a thought.

do you because maverick uses a differnt box he's getting confused?

he normally eats away from it coz i feed them wet food on my bed (very messy)

but i'll move the dry food further away. my rooms so small i cant really move it 2 far.

of 2 the vet. wish me luck

IDEA!
You could take some of Mommy's used litter, and put it in his, so he could get the idea that it's for pottying, not eating. That would probably help him a lot! That, or lock mommy in there for a while, and let her use it.

their litter boxes are in the same room, i'll take a pic to show you the set up as its kinda hard to explain! the trouble is i wanted to use clumping litter for mummy and non-clumping litter for baby. and Maverick will only use the big litter box that the kitten cant climb into.

got back from the vet yesterday and the kittens going to be ok. the vet just thinks he ate to much to quickly.

what i think happened was maverick is reluctant to feed him as he bites so he's been eating dry/wet food then he managed to get Mav to give hm milk and he over indulged.
as the vomit was near the cat tower and in the tunnel in which he plays i think he might have got a little over excited by the play and thrown up. just as i used to as a kid after going to the fairground!

oh and the vet confirmed it. he's a boy!!!

she also couldnt stop laughing at how big and fat he was! said he was a typical male.
