I was browsing in Petsmart today and found this concoction called "calm down". It was a liquid you can put in your cat's water to help them feel less stressed. Has anyone ever heard or this or tried it? I was curious as to weather it actually works, is a gimmic, or is potentially harmful to kitties.

We bought Feliway to try and help Lilly along, but it doesn't seem to be working all that well. I am wondering if this might be another alternative.

I've never heard of it but then again I had never heard of feliway either until Ash came along. It seems to work well for her but, again, I have no idea how she was before.

I use it too. I also use a number of other homeopathic remedies so can't vouchsafe for its efficacy all by itself. Go ahead and give it a try. It won't hurt and it may indeed provide the help you seek.

Good luck

I've seen that and always wondered about it.

One thing I do use with my two and keep meaning to tell you about - Bach's Essences Rescue Remedy. We put it in their water (4 drops) every time we fill their water bowls.

Supposedly in any health store, but I haven't been able to find it there at any GNC. But hubby's chiropractor sells it.
I would imagine anyplace that sells homeopathic/natural remedies.

I've found it at every health food store. Whole Foods, Sun Harvest... not sure what you have over there but if you have a health food, look in the homeopathic remedies, like Heidi said.

If you are interested in some of the Bach Flower remedies, there are also FES Quintessential Flower Essences as well. They, like Bach, are high quality and I have found them very effective.

For your particular situation helping Lilly adjust to her new home and develop a more companionable relationship with your other cat (I do have that right?) you may wish to look at some of these: Oregon Grape (encourages loving inclusion of others;positive expectations of good will; ability to trust) and Tiger LIly encourages positive social interaction and the balancing of feminine and masculine energies). You could use one for each cat:-) or check into some of the others remedies . They are available at many different health food stores, but generally not nutrition stores.

I am glad to hear of different options, but just as a reminder to all cat fanciers out there... check the ingredients. some plants are toxic to cats, and might be a minor ingredient in some of these (like garlic for example). I would try to get a list of ingredients and check to be sure all of these are safe for kitties, and if so, go for it and let us know how it works!

absolutely check ingredients - and remember that herbal treatments can also be very dangerous if it is the wrong herb. The more knowledge you can arm yourself with the better. One thing to remember, homeopathic treatments generally use the 'essence' distilled down from the main ingredients and virtually nothing of the original nature remains other than the energy essences so are almost always a safe alternative.

I have used it, and it doesn't work on my group- anyone want almost a full bottle?

What I use now is camomille tea leaves, just break open the tea bags and mix a bit of the leaves in with either spray cheese, cream cheese or yogurt- now that works!

I'm not sure if it's safe but Petsmart has a number of simular things like Pet-Eze for Cats, Calmative Supplement. I havn't used it on Limerick, but if it works I might look into it.
