If your cat gets lost and is gone for days and you find her- please let her rest 24 hours but then get her to the vet for a check-up. Squirrel vanished for three days last week. She finally came home and she was crying in a peculiar way. I went to scoop her up, and she was filthy. She had stool all over her back legs, tail and rear.
I took her in to give her a rear end bath and see if there were any visible wounds (there weren't) I put her in kitty jail for 24 hours, gave her fluids and food, and monitored her, and she seemed okay. So I let her out into the house after 24 hours. This morning I rushed her to the vet. She had a high fever and a bacterial load in her gut. Her third eyelids were almost covering her eyes she was so dehydrated.
She has been checked over, is now on house arrest and in kitty jail upstairs in the cat room. She is on meds and I am force feeding her every three hours. The vet believes I am spot on with my guess that she got locked inside someone's barn or shed and had to eat something nasty to survive.
So even if you think your lost kitty looks okay- get her checked out with the vet when you finally recover her.

I wish this rain would stop so that I could finish our cat enclosure-

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Poor little Squirrel. It's so wonderful that you are so attentive to your kitties' behavior, MA. She'll be better in no time with you taking such particular care of her. Get well soon, little girl!

Thank you for sharing this important lesson with all of us.

Sending best wishes for Squirrel to have a quick recovery, and then for the weather to give you a break!

She could be better. Still running a fever, but she has progressed from syringe feeding to eating out of my hand. A little messy, but I will take it. Her third eyelids are still prevalent and I have to syringe her water or else she won't drink. I am going to take one of my downstairs pet fountains and put it upstairs to see if that encourages more drinking on her part.
