Day light savings

I've got to get off the subject of death for a moment here:

We have daylight savings coming up, I know some states don't do it, but I wanted to point out that it has an odd history, and I am surprised it still is around. For instance i always thought it was due to farmers wanting more daylight, not true, it was about conserving energy during both world wars!

Don't get me wrong I love it, in fact it improves life quality for me two fold cause I can walk at night after work etc.

I love having more daylight!! It really makes a difference in my mood and its great to have dinner outside at sunset

Thanks for that little history Marge. I never would have known that about the wars. Now I can tell my hubby and he'll think I'm smart.

I found that interesting, I read it on CNN page

I do like more daylight.. but I miss that hour of sleep. Messes with my schedule.

And yeah, I know, we get the hour back... but it's not the same!

Daylight savings time wouldn't be that bad...except that it really confuses the cats. They aren't so good at resetting their clocks.

i love it!
especially in june it will get dark at 11 pm!
for a year i was so bored and studied the sky and time so i never needed to look at my watch

I went to Central America for a year and the time never changed. It was so wierd. I guess I like it because the day is longer, but I can do without the loss in October.

Arizona does not go onto Daylight Saving Time but, since other states do, I have to get up an hour earlier, starting Monday. I make outgoing collection calls, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time and we have to schedule accordingly. The inbound reps have it worse - some of them have to be in at 4:00 a.m.

I truely detest the time changes that go along with Day Light Savings Time. I can understand why we need to conserve energy all that jazz but flipping the clock back and forth is a big ole pain.

i love daylight savings time allows me to wear sunglasses all the time, not just during the first part of the day.

Plus, here in NJ the sun sets at 6-7pm now, which is WAY too early, now, it will be all OK again, and light at least till 8

I don't mind daylight savings time (except for the hot and humid weather we get down here! ) but I DO mind losing an hour of sleep on the weekend. Come on- that's why weekends were invented!!!
Uh, oh - when does it start there? It started here on Easter Sunday, and I reminded my mom to change her clocks - I bet it really threw her off!
I don't mind DST, but find it unnecessary here, because we're so far north. As fwan says, in summer it's light outside till 10:00 or 11:00 p.m..

we had ours on easter sunday too

I've been prepping myself by going to bed earlier the last couple of weeks!! The mornings will be kind of sucky for a few weeks though!!!
When is it?? I personally hate it b/c I lose an hour of sleep
post #17 of 32
I LOVE that it gets dark late, but I HATE losing an hour! It takes me the whole week to adjust. In the fall, I LOVE gaining an hour but I HATE that it gets dark earlier.

(I guess you just can't win with me, eh?)

I don't like it. It takes an hour of daylight away from me. I work the Graveyard Shift, and now it's usually starting to be day light at 5:30am, but with Daylight time, it will be dark at that time. I will be sleeping during the extra hour of daylight that everyone gets in the evening. I'm not happy about daylight time at all.

I think the clock should move forward 1 hour every work day at 4pm (to 5pm) so people can go home an hour earlier and than back 1 hour at midnight (to 11pm) so you get an extra hours sleep each night!

As a kid, the jumps back and forth between Standard and Daylight Savings times always seemed like the official marking of either the beginning of winter or the beginning of summer.

Its deja vu. I recall the same conversation going on at about one year ago;

I couldn't find the CNN article. Did it say anything about Benjamin Franklin, because I was taught that he "invented" DST, so that people would have an extra hour of daylight in the summer to be outside after work.

Maybe it was put into effect for wartime reasons. Maybe I was misinformed.

We cooked out yesterday. It was so fun having it lighter longer. As for getting up this morning...

I like Daylight savings time inthe fall, but somehowin the spring, I begrudge it.. like I feel like I'm getting less sleep (even though in theory I should sleep the same amount.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I woke up (bad dream) last night and it took 2 hours to fall back asleep! (It's ok - Oliver curled up next to me for comfort and protection) It might have been the dream, but I think it was knowing I have to get up earlier.

Thank you.

I like DST because I can't stand it to be dark outside at 5:30 PM in the winter. I wish they would keep it year round so it would never get dark earlier than 6:30.

Though, having worked the graveyard shift before I can understand why DST is not good for 3rd shifters.

Ok I was totally caught off guard by daylight savings. I missed 2 classes today b/c cause of it!!!!!
