Who's online status icon (or text)?

I'd love to know if a thread starter is online when i'm posting my response. A lot of forums have this - when a member is online, there's a special icon or words "online" next to their name in each post - did we ever think about implementing something like this?

See that big dot up beside your user name? When you're online, it's green, when you're not, it's grey.

Members who choose to be 'invisible' always show as being offline, however.

Sometimes I forget to log out, so Im not actually On the site. I know when I do that because when I come back online I dont have to sign in. So what happens then, what color is my dot when forget to log out...do people think Im online and not? Just curious....

If your browser is not open and on the site, you show as offline.

Thanks Deb! I had the same question - I never log out and I actually set the forums as my homepage (how addicted is that???? ) Nice to know I only show as "online" when I'm ACTUALLY online!

Actually that's not quite correct - there is a timeout period of 15 minutes.
