Sigh. I usually put all of kitty's toys away but I left out one of those furry mice toys last night. When I awoke this morning, I found the mouse (hidden behind a pillow - just peeking out enough for me to see) but not the tail! About a 2 inch by 1 inch section of the tail is missing. I've seen horrible stories (thanks Animal Planet) about animals swallowing thread, cloth, etc. and getting impacted bowels or otherwise injurying their insides. I also saw the post on this site about thread.
Kitty had a timeframe of about 6 1/2 hours to eat the tail. I have yet to find any evidence of it (i.e. that he didn't eat it, or that he ate it and vomited it up). It's now only been an additional 9 hours since he could've eaten the tail and he seems okay. But, I don't think this would be long enough for the tail to cause problems if it's working it's way through kitty's intestines. Although, ages ago I saw one of my indoor/outdoor cats swallow a whole, real mouse and vomit it back up in short period of time.
Kitty is eating, drinking and using the litter box normally.
He has an appointment at the vet's next week for a deworming shot and a health cetificate (we're supposed to visit grandma & grandpa for a bit) so I will bring it up to the vet then. However, if I see any signs of change in the kitty I'll take him to the vet right away.
BTW, PetsMart was no help whatsever in telling me what their loose, toy mice are made of. The manager just said he thought they weren't real (fur or the leather looking stuff). He said "it doesn't smell like leather to me." I asked if he knew where they came from and he said no. UGH.
Has anybody had any experience with their cat swallowing something like this??
Thanks for listening!
