My little kitten Kiri, who is 10 weeks old, has a rather large tummy compared to my other kittens the same age. Its not hard, just sort of squishy like a water balloon. Shes been dewormed (Pyrapam for roundworms- there's no evidence of tapeworms or anything), we decided to do a third dose to be sure and that was yesterday. Kiri was brought to the Vet clinic with her four brothers and sisters and they all had bloated tummies. After being dewormed, the others went back to normal, but Kiri's stayed big. She is going for a checkup on Friday to be sure nothing is wrong, and we are taking a stool sample with us. Kiri eats, pees and poops normally and is very alert and playful. Any ideas on what may be causing the tummy bloat?

If there's no ther signs, I can't think of anything medical. Usually the symptoms of gas, intestine problems etc are pretty obvious. It could be that you have one pudgy kitten. Make sure and let us know what the vet says.

I think maybe she is just chubby, because shes quite a bit heavier than the other kittens. If it was gas or something I wouldn't think she would weigh more, as it would be all air. Anyways,I will keep you posted on her

Well today Kiri's tummy looks normal. She seems to have lost the bloated look overnight. Maybe she was still dealing with the worms? Who knows. I'm going to keep an eye on her for a while, just to be sure.

Today Kiri's tummy is worse than ever
It feels like its full of air, like a balloon. Its hard for me to tell if she's peeing and pooping normally, because my cats all share one hug litterbox, and I can't tell whose poop is in there. I have seen her go to the box, so I assume she's using it ok. She is still playful with the other cats and eats normally. I see her drink a lot as well. Are there any specific disorders that I could look into that have tummy bloat as a symptom? Shes a shy kitten so its hard to tell if shes acting withdrawn due to illness. It seems like this comes and goes, right now her belly is huge! She's going to the Vet on friday, but I'd like to know what it could be in the meantime.

Have you call your Vet and let him know that she is worse? Friday seem so far away - is there no way that your Vet could see the little one sooner?

He's only in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I live in a small town and we 'share' the Vet with another town. I don't think its really an emergency as she seems to be acting normal, I'm just curious what it could be. Its almost like shes got gas in there or something. Could she be gulping down her food too quickly?

It could be gas build up from a food intolerence. It could be that after she eats and drinks, the food swells a bit. You might want to try and put her in her own room with a litter box to check her pee and poop. This way you can tell the vet how her litter box habits are.

The pic isn't great, but you can kind of see how big her tummy is:

Oh! I just thought of something! Kiri seems to have the most trouble when she eats her canned food. She eats dry during the day and I split a can of wet between the three kittens for a little extra nutrition. I accidently forgot to give them the wet food yesterday evening (Hubby and I went on a date
)and decided to feed them it today earlier than usual. Thats when the bloating got really bad for her, a little while after eating it. The problem has been consistently worse in the evenings, and she seems fine during the day. Maybe the wet food is the problem?
