His name's John, and we went out for quite a while in high school. He is/was a really funny, sweet guy, but definitely not "marriage material" - he's been divorced three times already!
You can't tell from the pictures, but I was really seething when he came to pick me up that evening, because he hadn't warned me that he was going to wear tails and a top hat! As it was, I ended up wearing the hat most of the night, and sometimes friends will ask, "Remember the top hat....?"

I found another picture, of me modeling my senior prom gown - I wore it without the detachable collar. I still can't find our wedding album, where the prom pictures would be - these are from my brother's photo album:

We were not a picture-taking family in those days -- good thing, because I don't think I really want a reminder
The guy was a bit of a loser -- I'd only seen him a couple of times before that night, and I may have seen him once more after. It was also one of the very few times when the shortage of $$ did impact on my enjoyment of something: I settled for a dress I really didn't like much, and didn't feel particularly good in. It was not one of the best events in my life. C'est la vie!

Edit: I was trying to back out and add to this, when my computer developed a mind of its own. I had neglected to say that there are some really neat pics turning up -- interesting to see people in their "younger years".

Hey Tricia, nice vintage photos of you on the stairs and with your date. His goofy top hat and tails immediately reminded me of Gene Wilder in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Also, I can't find the good ones - they are in an album somewhere so these'll have to do!

Here is my picture from a Charity Ball I attended when I was 16. The guy was my boyfriend at the time!

This is from my Leavers' Ball from High School. The guy is my boyfriend at that time!
I don't know how I missed your photos yesterday Sarah.
Nice photos and you look very sweet at the Leavers' Ball.

We didn't have "prom", just formal and then a grad dance at a hotel.....Some people were excited about formal every year, but I wasn't one of them. I only went once, because my mother MADE me. She agreed with me after that it was a lot of money and not really my scene. Plus, I dance like Elaine on Seinfeld, so...you get the picture. And speaking of pictures, there is one from that formal, but my parents have it. If I end up at their house any time soon, I'll have a look for it.
All the pictures so far look great, guys! Keep 'em coming!

Terrible is not the word for it Sarah.
If I was your date I'd want a cheek to cheek photo with you too. That's a cute pic.

I emailed the photos to John yesterday (we've been back in touch for the past two years) - his response was, "I didn't know you were seething, but I have to admit that I looked like "Bugs Bunny"! He's now into the first few months of his 4th marriage! He's still sweet & funny, but acts like a 16-year-old (he'll be 49 on July 4th). He says he'll look for our prom pictures, and send them to me if he finds them (unlikely, with 3 ex-wives, I'd say).

These pics are awesome!
I really enjoyed seeing the prom dates.

I've decided to post 2 pics of my junior and senior proms..

I wore the same dress
for both because I really liked that dress AND I didn't want to spend more money on another dress that I wouldn't wear again!
My brother HATED that dress so that gave me more motivation to wear it again!
He felt it was too sexy if you can believe that!? I've seen a lot of other dresses that were A LOT MORE SEXY AND REVEALING than that dress!!
My own parents had to tell him to back off because he threw fits when he saw me wearing that dress for both proms.

Junior prom-1989 The quality of the pic isn't too great- My face is NOT DEFORMED! That's the quality of the pic.

I met James at a video store where he worked and he would flirt like mad with me. It took me over 3 months to get my nerve up and talk with him instead of just blushing and leaving. (I am VERY VERY SHY with hearing men who doesn't know sign language
). After getting to know him a bit, I found out that his little sister was a good friend of mine-went to the same high school!!
At that point, it was near our junior prom time (girl's choice). He told his sis to tell me he'd LOVE to go to the prom with me (he was 6 years older and in college) so TECHNICALLY I didn't ask him out! HE ASKED me out even though it was girl's choice prom!
I think he knew I wouldn't have asked him because I was so shy with him.

Senior prom-1990. I grew up with Dan-we used to go to the same elementary school/classes for the deaf (we're both deaf) until I transferred to a public school where I was the only deaf person. His family and my family had hoped that we would marry each other but the relationship never really progressed (story of my life!). He is now happily married with 3 kids and 2 cats (adopted two kittens from me!). He still looks great but with a lot less hair!

It's lovely! I really would post mine if I had any idea of what box they might be in.
