Now, I'm not a big fan of Microsoft but this is NOT their fault. What happened to LEARNING grammar, or for the professor...TEACHING it if the students don't grasp it?

Yeah, geez, I mean we can't expect the machine to do it all for us. Next husbands will sue microsoft for forgetting their anniversary's cause the "updater" calendar thing malfunctioned!

Boy that's funny. I'm surprised the Professor didn't file a lawsuit over it.

This is just a symptom of a much bigger problem. Today's educational system is breeding a generation of functionally illiterate graduates. I am constantly shocked by the lack of understanding shown by both my professors and fellow students when it comes to grammar and syntax. A mistake as basic as using the wrong there/their/they're is unacceptable at the university level, especially when it is made by the professor. If grammar continues to be undertaught in the schools, it will be no time before these mistakes become completely tolerated. People will eventually cease to strive for proper grammar at all. We use the english language every day! Why isn't there a higher standard?

I think it's a cultural thing. I know I am going to get booed for bringing up politics but it bothers me that W's poor grammar was actually a *plus* for him politically. As if he was "folksy" and not "talking down to you". It's not right when that becomes a plus for you.

To quote President Bush..."Is our children learning?"

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I know, and I think it was all on purpose, I think he "dumbed down" cause he knew it would sell. The man is no genius but I know he knows better than that.

I don't know Marge, his mistakes are so prolific. I just wrote a satire for my, well Satire class. I tore the idea right from the headlines. Basically it's about Bush choking a pretzel a second time. Only this time he isn't as lucky. He ends up in a vegetative state, only able to speak in Bushisms. I needed to research his Bushisms and found a site that had 31 PAGES of Bushisms. My god, was I happy that I was using the xerox machine at work and not my own printer! Don't think I could print it here..I might get thrown off the boards.
