Starting in April, in Crossing the Bridge forum there will be a 24 hour candlelight ceremony to honor those who recently have departed from this world. This ceremony will be held every Monday.

How it will work, is that you let one of the moderators know the name of the cat who has passed- whether or not you have posted a tribute or not. And we will then light a candle in memory of your feline friend.

The candles will show in one post- simply a lit candle, and the name of the cat is all that will show up. Each time a cat's name is added, another candle will be lit and these candles will stand side-by-side in one post.

It is to help light the way toward healing and to remember those that we held in such special regard. Because so many have passed from our lives, we will be honoring only those that have passed in that week prior to the ceremony.

so if you've lost a companion earlier this year, or last year, we won't be doing them? just the ones that pass from now on?

Yes, because otherwise it would go on forever and ever. So many of us have lost cats, this ceremony being new will honor those recently passed. They stay in our hearts always and that is the most important factor.

It's a great idea but it also makes me very sad that my
Cleo
won't be allowed to have a candle.

Why are we not surprised?

It isn't a matter of being allowed. It is just this seemed to be the way to go. As I said, we honor all the ones who have passed, and sadly the candlelit room will be filling up rather quickly anyway- None of my cats who have passed will be in the room and my hope is none of the ones remaining will be either for a very long time.

We are not trying to exclude anyone or make anyone feel badly. We know how much these cats are loved. The Bridge is a tribute to that factor every day-

It is a very comforting ceremony to have, I am glad they will be held here soon.

It will be a really lovely addition to the Bridge. This isn't something to replace what it already there. It's in addition to the beautiful tributes already being posted there.

This is an idea that has been done in other forums, it is by no means original. But the candle, created by Heidi today is original and here it is:
