Someone will be along in a bit who can probably tell you labor signs, but I can tell you that cat pregnacy will last from 63-68 days, so if you know when she was bred, you can start watching her closer as the time comes

My best advice, however, would be to keep her indoors, permanantly.....better for all parties involved!

I know my cat who just had babies 3 days ago, came up on the bed and didnt move. She never comes on our bed, let alone stay there for awhile. So, I knew something was up. Good Luck with the labor.

crazykitten..please keep the mom indoors until she has her babies and weans them...cats can become pregnant very quickly after giving birth. A friend of mine learned this the hard way...her cat kept getting out and she ended up having 6 litters before being spayed. I would set up an appt. to get mom spayed after the kittens are weaned and don't let her out again until the spay has been performed.

There are loads of ways to make extra income without actually getting a job ... I know how hard it is to wrestle working with going to school. But you can go around to all your neighbors and offer your services as a babysitter or you can do odd jobs around their homes or you can offer to your Mom (maybe she will pay for it??) to help her clean out closets and attics to have a yard sale. You get to keep the money to have your girl spayed though - that has to be agreed upon and once you get the money, you must have her spayed. If there is extra money after she is spayed, I would suggest starting a Kitty Health Care Savings Fund and put it away for future needs.

Also, there are lots of low- and no-cost spay clinics throughout the country. I feel certain there must be one such program either in your area or close nearby - maybe TNR1 knows? Katie? Anyone else know?

And in the way of a suggestion to you - please keep this girl indoors from now on until you get her spayed. Do not let her go out at all. It isn't fair to her that 1) she was allowed to become pregnant in the first place and 2) now that she is, she must also run the risk of illness to her or to her kittens by being allowed to go outside while pregnant.

As I said in my Welcome Message, we here at TCS strongly encourage spay/neuter and it is only for this reason that I am suggesting that you look into having your girl taken care of ASAP. She will be happier, you will be happier - it is a winning situation for all concerned.

Hope this helps,

~gf~

God love you, Katie ... I was just posting as you were and suggested that maybe you knew of an organization nearby that might help - and you did! *hugs*

Gayef...I aim to please!

crazykitten..I do understand the pressures of being in high school and I am glad you came to this site so we could try to help you find ways to get your cat fixed once the kittens are born. Hopefully one of those groups will be able to help you with spaying the cat.

*hug crazykitten* Oh honey ... I know. It just seems like everything is absolutely impossible, doesn't it? But you know, I sense that you are very smart and can figure out a way to make it work. I have faith in you and I know you know what is right for Spaz (very cute name, I suppose it fits???). I just want you to have Spaz with you for a very, very long time so you can enjoy her company and companionship so I am trying to help you protect her so that she can be.

You'll do what needs to be done, I know you will. But you can't wait until August to do it, Honey. You are going to have to come up with something a lot sooner.

Let's put our heads together and see what we can come up with, OK?

Hey, where do you live at? I am just outside of Kansas City in Shawnee. Kansas is a huge state, so I am just curious. If you tell me, I can see what I can find to help you.

Oh, by the way here is some important info from Spay Neuter Kansas City:

Heat cycles in cats start as early as 6 months and occur every 3-4 weeks during spring through early fall. The gestation period for both dogs and cats is 63 days. Female cats can become pregnant again as soon as 10 days after giving birth (while still nursing the first litter).

Whenever the kittens are born and friends/teachers help you out by taking kittens, please urge them to spay/neuter the kitten so they do not face the same situation!

Augh, why can't we edit our replies? Annoying. Anyway, I don't know if any of these places are near you, but here is some more to try to help you. I don't think you're near KC, but I know there are several low cost spay/neuter clinics in the area. The cost is based upon the financial situation of the owner, and is balanced by donations from people who are helping control the number of animals born every year.

Actually you can....after you post, you should see a button that will allow you to edit the post. It may not specifically say "edit"..but if you roll over it you should be able to see the edit button. The other thing you can do is change the color scheme..that is what I did...scroll ALL the way to the bottom of the page and change the setting to "office hours".

BTW..thanks for joining this thread...since you also live in Kansas...perhaps you can help crazykitten.
