Hi. My name is Catherine. I have two Irish Wolfhounds, a Lurcher and recently added a Cat to our menagerie. Last week, I stopped by the shelter to drop off some donated stuff (my boyfriend and I own a pet supply store) and came home with a 14 year old, 20 lb love of a cat. He hasn't lived with dogs before but seems to be settling right in. The dogs either want to be his friend, are terrified of him or ignore him. He is VERY large, orange, short haired. Our biggest adjustment problem is that he is kicking off never seen before allergies in both my boyfriend and myself. I'm lucky with just a little itching around my eyes but my poor boyfriend can barely open his eyes, sneezes constantly and is wheezing. We are hoping a change to a better cat diet, some rub downs with anti-dander stuff, some Claritin and time will help. I guess I'll have to start keeping a cleaner house! Anyway, I'm enjoying reading everyones posts.

Take care
Catherine

I am new here too, but I have been reading up on the behavior forum, and I have learned so much! In fact I have already gotten help with my furry black alarm clock! Hope you get as much out of this as I have!

We were debating over the new cat's name...as he didn't seem to recognize the one that the shelter had been given (Buff) ..... and we decided on Charlie. He is such a love and becoming a real talker. He absolutely LOVES my boyfriend. When I'm home alone he'll come by once in a while but when my boyfriend arrives he is sitting on his lap, purring and meowing. We are working things out with the allergies and have seen some improvement with Claritin. Hopefully that, time and a some better food will help. So far we have him on Inova Lite and are supplementing that with a Breeder's Choice wet. I need to keep an eye on the dogs to be sure they aren't the ones eating the food but I think Charlie likes it.

Hi & Welcome. Life can be cruel to older cats. Charlie is so lucky that you adopted him. I hope that you get the allergies taken care of....Big Charlie Cat needs you.
