I am trying to find out what's up. Kiwi keeps running away from her babies, and has been doing so all day....it doesn't matter if she if feeding them or not, she runs away as soon as she sees us and starts meowing like crazy. We've stayed with her and cuddled, changed her food and water, changed her kitty bed blanket and just about everything else you can think of. For some reason, she jumps out and away from them and yowls like crazy at our feet.

How old are the babies, Matt?

It is pretty normal for Momma to want to be with her people ... but she needs to be spending time with those babies! Maybe if you were to decrease the amount of times you go in to check on her, or confine her and the babies to a room where you can close the door and not go in as frequently ... this might help her to stay with her babies.

Some first time mothers get a little confused also. She may want you to help her with the babies. I would also suggest what Gayef suggested. Or you can make or have made a birthing cage. It comes in really handy if I need to lock up babies and momma for one reason or another. I had to lock up momma today to seperate her from the babies because they always want to nurse and would not try eating solid food. Momma and babies did not like it but it worked and they ate, which is good because those babies are getting too big and hard for momma to keep up with them soley on milk.

I checked his posting history and kittens are ~3 weeks old.

Maybe the mamacat wants you to leave her alone? Just provide kitten food, fresh water and a clean litterbox...and then let her do her mama-magic in private with minimal interruptions.

No I dont mean to lock the babies away from the mom I meant a birthing cage would be handy if he wants to keep momma in with babies that way she can't wander off. it also works the other way too in case you need to seperate babies from mom.

As long as the kittens are gaining weight consistently and doing well, I wouldn't worry too much. Remember that Mom's been taking care of these little ones 24 hours a day for the past 3 weeks and she's probably getting a little tired of it! She probably wonders why you aren't helping her with all the work!

And please remember to have Mom and all the kittens spayed/neutered when the kittens are 8-12 weeks old.
