Who Brushes Kitty's Teeth?

Thread Starter
I've read that it can be good to occassionally brush your kitty's teeth...

So I was wondering, how many of you actually do it?
Is your cat a domestic kitty or show kitty?
Does kitty like it or fight you on it?
Do you use a toothbrush or your finger?

Anything else you'd like to add...

So I was wondering, how many of you actually do it? I started doing it a few years ago.

Does kitty like it or fight you on it? My oldest cat is already used to it. My kitten didn't like it at first, but with consistency, he actually enjoys it.
Do you use a toothbrush or your finger? I use Dental Swabs and sometimes Dental Wipes by Petkin .

Another question to add. How often do you brush his teeth?
I've just started with chester, my kitten. Some people say everyday, others 2-3 times a week. I'm not sure if I can get around to holding him down that many times a week, but once a week when I do his nails and Allerpet C seems reasonable to me. Afterall, it's 52X's more per year then I ever have before.
What do you think?

Hmm - I know we used to brush our poodle's teeth but he was old and had really bad breath!!!
I thought that biscuits were to help cat's teeth?
When I got Villy from the shelter she had recently been to the vet and had 4 teeth out, so there's not so many left to brush now, if I were to do it!

Does kitty like it or fight you on it?Like it? Yah right! She wouldn't come near me for hours after I tried brushing her teeth
Do you use a toothbrush or your finger?I started using the finger and eventuall moved on to the brush that slips over the finger

Anything else you'd like to add...
I wish I could brush her teeth because when we had the vet do a major cleaning of the teeth, we nearly lost her because of a horrible reaction to the anesthetic, so her gums are in horrible shape, but we can't do anything about it. Nothing seems to work for her! I worry about heart problems caused by gum disease

So I was wondering, how many of you actually do it? I started doing it when I first got Frodo.
Is your cat a domestic kitty or show kitty? Domestic, short hair
Does kitty like it or fight you on it? I started when Frodo was just a wee little kitten and he has become rather acccustomed to it.
Do you use a toothbrush or your finger? I use those finger brush thingies.

I started doing it because Bella is on a perscription diet that is mostly soft food (because of IBD).
Domestic short hair
She loves it cuz I started w/ Salmon toothpaste on my finger to just lick (she thinks its a treat!) and then slowly started moving it back/forth over her teeth. Then moved to the finger brush, very softly.
heck, now she smiles wide and bares her teeth when I get out the salmon toothpaste. She LOVES it.
I brush about 2/week.

Does kitty like it or fight you on it? They're not bothered- anything that involves a cuddle and attention they're up for!
Do you use a toothbrush or your finger? Small toothbrushes the cat oral surgeon provided

Anything else you'd like to add...
We got into it because Jazzie has an extra tooth, and having just been spayed we want to wait a few months before she has a second operation and anaesthetic. The vet oral surgeon said that brushing would stop it becoming a problem and that most of the treatments he does on cats could be prevented by regular brushing. He recommended for Jazzie twice a day until her teeth are fixed, and for the boys every other day. Vicket- has teeth like razors and I have a healthy respect for them, I wouldn't try brushing hers!

I started brushing the teeth of both my cats when they were 6mnths old (they are both over a year).

I use the finger brush that you just slip over your finger, it's easier to clean and it's softer on their gums. They say that the most important place to brush their teeth is the outside of the teeth.

Both my cats are short hair domestic cats.

They don't really fight it that much. They know the routine, they get brushed, clipped and then their teeth get brushed. They know that if they fight it just makes the whole process longer. They actually seem to like the taste of the toothpaste, I tasted it once (okay I'm crazy) and it tastes like vanilla frosting. I brush them once a week.

They say if you brush their teeth they live 2-3 years longer and if you don't brush their teeth not only will they lose them when they are older you could also end up paying hundreds of dollars every year on dental work. I have a friend who takes her Dog to the vet to have his teeth done every year and it cost over $200.
