Kitten found eating food in his bed box.

It was just my kitten's feeding time, so I let him out of his room while I fed him, he walked around meowing at my feet, then he disappeared and I looked around, then I went into his room and found him eating what seems like food reserves he kept in his bed box..

What makes him do this? It's the first time I see food and food stains on his bedding.

Any ideas?

I seems to me that he is trying to hoard food for in between feeding snacks. Try making a premium quality dry for kittens available to him at all times (in his room) so that he knows that there will be food for him any time he is hungry (Cats are grassers by nature) and he won't have to accumulate a stash. If you think about it he is quite the smart kitten.
