Hello everyone I am new to this fourm. My husband and I just got our first kitten about a year ago while he was stationed over seas in Germany. My German land lord gave us the kitten, and we have no idea if she is a farm cat or what she is. I have been doing some research to find out and so far we think she is a Bombay. The only thing that makes me doubt that she could be a Bombay is the fact that she has a small white spot on her chest.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

I have pictures, I just need to figre out how to post them.

While anything is possible, unless your landlord is a breeder, or got this cat from a breeder the odds are that it's not a Bombay.

Right now we have a cat in our rescue that looks very like a Bombay, right down to the copper eyes, but she's not.

This is not a very common breed, and many black cats look alike. You can read about this breed HERE

Unless you have papers on the cat it's a domestic shorthair/longhair. Purebreds are sold with papers (unless it's a purebred sold as pet).

If your cat's a purebred, the one who gave it to you would have told you. If the cat is a Bombay, you would have noticed it on the size of your wallet
since it's a quite rare breed.

Okay that does make sense, thanks. I guess I just thought that since he was German maybe he didn't care.
They tend to be like that sometimes. I didn't realise Bombays were such a rare breed so I am doubting that she is a bombay seeing as how he gave her to me for almost nothing.

lol I know nothing about cats.

Thanks again.

You still get papers when you buy a purebred sold as a pet, as long as it's pedigreed. I got papers with Simba. Of course I lost them . LOL! I didn't bother spending the money it costs to get him registered, but he's a pedigreed Bangel.
