Princess Jazzmin is now 6 years old and a nightmare to groom. When she goes in for dental cleaning we have her shaved because she becomes vicious to any groomer. I have literally been called to pick her up from several groomers because she turns into evil cat. How can I keep her long fur nice?? I try to do it in waves, but it is also costly to have her put under in order to groom and I don't want her aesthetized every time. I have heard of the spray that is supposed to calm cats but what other tricks of the trade are there??? special combs???

I've had my fair share of grooming cranky long-haired kitties!Usually my persian does quite well with grooming sessions however I'm never sure what kind of mood she's in.I find if she's napping I'll pick her up and wake her gently and start grooming. She's still in a relaxed mode and that's helpful. There are wonderful spray-on shampoos and leave-in conditioners that condition the fur nicely and makes grooming much easier.I use a wide tooth metal comb that's good for detangling matts.A big help is grooming the

underneath by letting the cat stand or even if it's lying down:reach underneath with your hands to feel for mats and gently and slowly comb out the fur.The cat is less stressed if you dont lie it on it's back, unless it's used to it.It helps a great deal to have short sessions and continue daily.

I have one persian who also turns into satan when i try to groom her. With my cat I think it's cause she has PKD (polycystic kidney disease) and they seem to be more sensitive to touch etc. One thing I've considered is keeping her shaved down to about 1". Now the trick is to get her shaved! I think I'm going to have to have her sedated to have it done! I've never had this much trouble with a long haired cat before!
