My cat is about 5 or 6 months old and I need some help. Lately when she goes into heat, she poops on the living room floor instead of in her litter box. What can I do? Is this normal? My boyfriend gave me the cat and we are having her spayed in the next two or three months, what can I do until then?????

New cat- odd behavior during heat-HELP!

If she is only doing it while in heat, it sounds like she is marking her territory. Usually pooping outside the box is linked to something like a medical problem or something bothering them. You said it's only when she's in heat, so it sounds like a territorial thing. If thats the case, there's not much you can do short of confining her to a small room or getting her spayed much sooner.
