Hi-

I need advice/help. We are cat rescuers. I used to be the cat chair for a local humane society, and we have done our fair share of rescue, probably having adopted over 50 cats in the 2 years we have been rescuing.

However, we have trapped 3 adult male feral cats that we have worked with for a year, but unfortunately, we are moving, and since the boys are unadoptable, they need to go to a sanctuary or barn situation. They have lived inside only since we have trapped them, but I think that they would have a better quality of life if they lived outside. Our humane society is out of foster space, and since
they are the ones that provide financial support for these boys, we need to find them a new place to be.

I am hoping that you can either refer me to a sanctuary or a barn situation, or give me advice. I can't just release these guys back, because they have been inside for enough time that they may or may not remember how to get food. And because they are untouchable, humans who find them may not be able to help them.

I have included stories/descriptions of each, and if you can help me out, please let me know. I am located in the central VA area, and can drive to PA, NJ, NY, MD, DC, NC, KY, TN.

1) "Boo", 2 years old, black and white, neutered male, UTD on shots and FIV neg. About a year ago, we rescued 3 brothers from a feral colony from behind Phillip Morris. There is a colony there of about 150 or more feral cats. They were neutered, and had their ears tipped but during
the recovery phase, the on-call vet realized just how sweet they were and how they would tame over well.

So we took them from this vet and tried to adopt them through our rescue group. Two of the brothers, Bud and Beau got adopted. But Boo, the third brother, is still with us.

Boo is a special child. He is all black with a white tummy and paws, and a small half-white mustache (think Kitty Hitler - yeah i know thats awful). Anyway, he was always the problem because he retained the most of his feral qualities. We have had him for a year and have made GREAT progress with him. He now will let you put him in a carrier and will let you hold him for a few seconds before
squirming. He also tolerates petting.

But Boo is not a pet per se. He is not a people person. He won't come if you call him. If you try and pet him when he doesn't want it, he will swat. He doesn't like to cuddle, he doesn't like to be near you. But he LOVES other cats, and he LOVES our dogs.

We think Boo would be a great farm cat or barn cat.

2) "Pumpkin", 2.5 years old, orange and white, neutered male, UTD on shots, FLV neg.

Pumpkin was rescued from behind Southern States. He was living in a colony. He is a wonderful boy, but has not tamed over well. He exhibits lots of feral tendencies. Has an asthma condition brought on by the stress of living in a house.

3) "Willie", 2 years old, brown tabby (absolutely beautiful), neutered male, UTD on shots, FLV neg.

Willie was trapped in our back yard with his 2 brothers, mom, and dad. All were adopted except for Willie. He will probably have back problems since he low crawls everywhere. He is not good with people, but is good with other cats. He has absolutely beautiful fur, but you can't touch it!

All of these cats are loved very much, so they need a good situation. Either a sanctuary or a barn situation. If you can help, we will donate some wet food that we have for trapping. Please e-mail me if you can help.

Thanks!

Hello-Cindy from Casey's House here.

Casey's House is a free-roaming shelter which, when funds allow, will include a fully enclosed porch so that our cats will be able to enjoy the outdoors.
We have quite a few ferals and I am pleased to say that they do settle in quite nicely.

If we took your three, that would be all the cats that we could accept at this time as we have a contract with another local organization to take 10, which will put us at full capacity. Since funds at the present time are tight, I do typically ask for a donation so I guess the bottom line is: how much wet food could you give us? Believe me, I hate to make it sound like it is all about money (or wet food) but I'm sure that you can relate being that you have experience in the rescue field yourself....

If you are interested, please email me privately at [email protected]. I'll be away for a couple of days but will be back at my computer Friday.
