I don't know- I am so stressed out with all the orphan kitties I see in our country! As much as I would like to help them, I can't! I have 12 currently and couldn't bring in anymore. We live in a condo-type place and my dad's mad at me for taking care of so many cats. I haven't spoken to him for quite sometime now because he threatened to do bad things to my cats - and I won't tolerate something like that.

I belong to an animal welfare org but unfortunately couldn't help out too because we don't have a shelter to temporarily place the kittens before they find homes. There are waayy too many abandoned kittens that everytime I hear them meow or see their piteous faces, my heart breaks. I couldn't do anything to help them! It's sad really.

This is one of the reasons why I want to get out of this country. People aren't compassionate enough to help these beautiful creatures out.

So sorry to listen to me vent.
I just don't know what to do!

I'm so sorry. I know how I would feel just seeing ferals/strays here, let along a large city. It must all seem overwhelming. Eventhough most others do not see it the same way, you need to focus on what you are doing to change that , as futile as it may seem sometime. And as far as rescue, 12 cats saved are 12 more than none, right? You might very well be at the heart of a big cat movement in your country. You may not see it as you would like it to be in your lifetime , but baby steps are better than no steps, right?

W/ the best cats
Stephanie, I understand how you feel. It seems that every step you make to improve things, something bad happens and it's 3 steps backwards. It's frustrating.
It shouldn't get you down though. You shouldn't give up. You're a great person. You're doing a good job.

Your dad is just being a dad. I don't think he really meant what he said.

I believe that people's attitude towards animals is changing in the Philippines. It is slow but it's positive. I think that what you see as no compassion is probably more of ignorance or overwhelming personal problems. There are of course, the real cat haters (they're everywhere) but I think with a bit of prodding and example the rest of the population can be made more aware of the poor plight of animals specially cats. Remember my "failing" TNR project? Well, one of the 2 apartment dwellers that feed the ferals has a grandchild. He saw me feeding the kitties. He immediately made his grandma promise to help me. Things like that make me go on.

your doing the best you can and no one can ask for more.

as sad as it is you cant possibly save them all but you can campaign to bring around change.

i know its frustrating sweetie but think of the 12 you saved and the countless others you have helped.

try not to focus on what you cant do and instead look at what you HAVE done.

It is the same here - but you can only do what you can, and leave the place better than you found it. In developing countries people are overwhelmed just trying to feed their families, and some of them have been through so much, war, disease, poverty, that they are burned out and can't turn on sympathy for animals, even if they could afford to do something. Be a little light in the dark, and more lights will slowly follow.

Well said! It is so heart breaking to see all the kitties in need of help, and can become just overwhelming! You have such a beautiful heart, bless you for all you're doing for these precious babies!

Wow!!! 12 cats?! You are awesome!!! I'm only at half that!

I have 2 strays hanging out at my place that I wish I could help. One is a funky Tomcat who is sort of psycho, but I feed him anyway. The other is a young, solid black, beautiful girlcat. I think she might be preggers. My daughter named her "Mix" because I said, if Psycho got her pregnant, her babies are going to be a weird mix of orange and black and ugly and cute!

I wish I could do more, too. It's not as bad around here, sounds pretty awful where you are. Around my neighborhood, we are all bleeding heart animal lovers and lots of my neighbors have little shelters under their decks & leave food out. I'm guilty of it but that's how I got the love of Snickers & K.C. Strays turned inside cats.

I know how much it hurts to see poor kitties in need of help. You have a really big loving heart and I'm sorry that you're feeling hurt and angry! I get angry at other people who don't want to help, too. I hope that this whole world changes its view on protecting all animals. Just remember how much you have helped your wonderful kitties. Hang in there and feel free to vent to us anytime, dear!!!

At the kitty's beck and call
You are doing such a wonderful thing. You can't possibly provide a home for them all; you can only do what is possible. I know it must be frustrating, and it must break your heart to see these poor kitties but you are doing the very best you can.

Bless you for caring.
Hopefully one day things will be better for homeless animals.

Thanks everybody for hearing me out. It helped a lot, knowing that there's someone who's willing to listen to you whine.
Although it will take a lot of years before people here in my country start to care for animals more, I wish that time will come sooner! I can't help but feel sorry for these helpless creatures, especially when I see kittens on the side of the road, thin, dirty, and obviously hungry. I still can't do anything about them. I say a little prayer for them that God will get them sooner so they'll have a happier lives over the Bridge. I know it's sad to wish something like that, but I think it's better than let them live unhappy lives.
