My nearly 6 month old male kitty Loco is going to be neutered on Nov 23. I have a problem with him (just in the last few days) trying to mount my 9 week old kitten Gypsy. He grabs the fur on the back of her neck with his teeth and tries his best to get on top of her. Shes pretty wiggly, and with a mew of protest she soon gets away.He doesn't do any of the 'motions', just sort of straddles her and sits there. Is there any way I can stop this behavior? Will he stop doing it once he's neutered? I don't want him to hurt poor little Gypsy.

There is nothing you can do to stop him short of seperating them. The sex drive is much stronger than anything that may bother him including a squirt bottle or loud noises. A male who is just figuring out he is a man takes ahwile to actually figure out what they are doing. Once he is neutered, he will probably stop. The longer they experience being whole, the more likely they will keep the behavior. As long as he is nowhere near a female in heat, that behavior should stop once neutered.

I'm hoping he will stop once he's neutered. He's fine one minute, then he's chasing her around relentlessly doing this purr-meow squeak thing. She doesn't seem too bothered by it, and just jumps up in her chair if he's bugging her too much. He can't physically hurt her can he? She's only 9 weeks old, so I'm pretty sure that her being in heat isn't an issue. Its only 12 more days until the Vet appointment, I hope he won't develop a life long habit of doing this in that time frame. Right now the two of them are snuggled up together snoozing away. i get the feling it bugs me way more than either of them
Is there any way of changing the behavior if it continues after the surgery? I may be jumping the gun, but I'd like to be prepared.

I really don't think he's going to hurt her. If he was, she would turn around and smack him one. She's really young, but they can be pretty rough even at 9 weeks. I really don't think he's going to continue once he's neutered. He is not going to be whole very much longer. Once they get neutered, there isnt much urge for these kinds of things. On the very low chance that he does, you just have to work with him and find a noise he doesnt like. Anytime you catch him doing it, make the noise. After ahwile, he will associate something unpleasant with it. All my males are neutered and I only have one that even seems interested. However, I have whole females and he only reacts when they are in heat.

Thats good news
I love all my kitties so much, that I just want them to be happy and comfortable. Like I said, it obviously bothers me much more than them
Thanks for the advice
