We recently lost my mom's cat to heart failure. She's been morning him, but has started talking about getting another Siamese, Abyssinian, or Burmese cat. I've been trying to talk her into going to some of the shelters in the area and checking back now and again for her special kitty, when she's ready, of course.
Dad is worried because they are getting up to 60 years old and if they get a kitten, they'll have one more worry when they end up moving to an old age home (yes, my dad can be morbid at times). Personally, I think it's valid to look for a cat that's been around for a few years, as mom likes having a cat to snuggle with (a little calmer).
Mom's been fighting me on it though, because I got my DSH, Chester from a Humane society and he came equipped with worms, a URI and some conjunctivitis (due to the URI). I say that those were treatable and he's happy and healthy now that we've gotten through the innitial problems. I also say that my friend got a Bangel from a humane society (who was an adult) and he's had absolutely no problems what so ever. She seems to think that all cats from humane societies are sick and that a breeder is the only way to go.
Now for the point of this story. I was wondering if anyone knew of any siamese rescues in Ontario. I think she'd be more open to getting a rescued cat if she could get one that she knew was healthy and was definately of the breed (she's sort of racist when it comes to cats, although loves Chester). I've done some looking online and haven't been able to find any, but I thought I might go to some people who might have connections of sorts.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Jess

Golly just about a month ago there was a lady in Quebec that had a rescue Siamese. The poor thing had been left outside and she had lost one eye but she was a beautiful lilac-point. I'm not sure about Ontario rescue but I will see what I can find out for you.

I live near Toronto so the chances might be good!

Try www.petfinder.com

I just typed Ontario and Siamese in and got some results. Some will be shelter groups and others will be rescues (Siamese or otherwise) that house the cats with foster parents (so they should be healthy).

I volunteer with Texas Siamese Rescue and I know we are working with a foster home in your area. Please check our website and maybe you can find a kitty close to home.

You are smart to recommend your parents get an adult cat. Siamese do live 20+ years. This is a long term committment, so it is best to think ahead. Our Rescue does make a lifetime committment to our fosters. If for some reason your parents were unable to care for a cat they adopted through us, we will always accept the cat back into our program. We would rather they come home to us than go somewhere they won't be wanted.

All of our cats are up to date on shots and cleared of parasites, ringworm, URI, etc before going home.

Please check our website:

Good luck finding your next pet!

I had just seen this on another thread and thought of you immediately. I personally wish I could take hundreds of these homeless cats and give them all a blessed and wonderful life. I hope you are able to take one of their kitties and give them a wonderful home.

Thank you all so much! We miss our siamese cats so much. I suppose part of it is having them both leave us within months of each other.
I'll write down the information you have given to me, and present it to mom when she's ready.
Thank you again
Jess

Although not as organized as the Virgina , Texas and Calif Siamese Rescue groups, there is one in Manitoba http://www.rescuesiamese.org There is also an exotic cat rescue in Quebec that frequently has meezers. Alas, we have no Meezer express but we could start one!

The link isn't working for me.

what would a meezer express look like? Surely we'd have to start with the most luxurious of fabrics on some very plush cushions and have tuna served at every meal.

I found one in Hamilton, which doesn't appear to have many cats, but really, all you need is that special one.

Sorry, I should have explained. The Meezer Express is a group of volunteers who drive cats to where they need to go - to where they are being adopted. That way, a cat in say, Virginia or Texas, can find a home in Montreal or California. Someone drives part of the way and meets the next volunteer.

Mind you, one meezer family was just adopted before they even arrived from Pakistan!!

sorry, I didn't know. It's so wonderful that people are willing to help so readily for a cat to become united with their family to be.

Mom hasn't started looking yet, but there were mutters yesterday that she thinks its going to be really soon. I'll message in this part of the forum and let you know when she does.

I'm looking foward to our new meezer! The presence has been missed in the house, for sure.

The Texas Group has volunteers called the 'Fur Flyers' who serve as a chaperone of sorts for kitties flying home. We like to fly our cats when possible. Much less stressful, shorter traveling time, etc when done correctly.

We're always looking for people who travel frequently between DFW and other US Cities who have room for a 'special' carryon! If you are interested in learning more about this unique volunteer opportunity, visit our website:

www.TX.SiameseRescue.org

Thanks!

The date and time are in the bar at the top of each message. This thread is from 2005.
