Q on Queen( and/or me) taking on Orphaned Kittens.

I have a few questions on this subject.

I was already thinking of taking in bottle babies this summer, now that one of our cats is pregnant i am a little unsure weither that would be safe. I have bottle fed kittens before so thats not the problem in the slightest.

Although i would like to try to see if Delilah would take the babies into her litter first ( although i would suppliment often with Glop or KMR so there will not be as much added stress). However i do think its important for kittens to have a mother because they learn things that we as humans can not really teach as well and often times we can end up with "mean brat cats". Since i have a male cat who has strong maternal instincts that has not happened around here.

Anyways my question is what are some things i should watch out for or should i not let any other kittens near my female and her kittens. I know the first thing would be if any of the kittens are sick, but can they find out of the kitten has feluke or any of those at such a young age. Since if they are Orphaned then that means that they have no mother to test to see if she has Feluke.

... and since you can't accurately test for Feluk until the kittens are older, then you really do have a bit of a catch-22. While I think it is noble of you to want to do this, I also think that if the kittens you plan to bring in have unknown variables as they do, you are taking a rather large risk with the health of your cat and her kittens.

Additionally, while you could still take them in and hand-raise them, the normal household does not really allow for an accurate way to isolate cats - closing a door and confining them to one room isn't a reliable way to keep baddies from other cats.

My opinion would be to wait until you have sent all of your kittens to their new homes before introducing new ones to your house.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but honestly, the recipe isn't mine ... it was taken from www.kitten-rescue.com so I can't take credit for it.

I love that site by the way. There are so many good ideas from experienced people and it truly is a life-saver at 4 in the morning when no one is around!
