Yesterday some of you may have read my thread about getting a new queen size pillow top bed for FREE from this website "freecycle.org" After sleeping on our ancient full size bed for a year, this was such a good nights sleep last night! I went out yesterday evening and had fun shopping for a bed framer and a new comforter set. I was so excited about it all that I just had to share.
So here it is:

Unfortunately Lilly did not like us taking apart her hiding spot in the bedroom so much. She ran out into the dining room and hid between the old mattresses.

Ebony was kinda put off by it too and started hissing at Lilly
So we're pretty much back at sqaure one with them. But now Lilly is back safe and sound in our bedroom and she did sleep on our new bed last night with us, so I think we're forgiven.

I think a duvet is something slightly different in the US, but I am not sure of the distinction between duvet and comforter.
maybe someone else will help me out.

I think you're right! My understanding of a comforter is a small blanket that babies and children have to comfort them! (and suck and chew)
I don't think that's quite what you have!

I also like your set and the colour

I just joined Freecycle.org too..Great site but I have yet to pick anything up from anyone...though hope to give away a bunch of stuff.

A duvet in Canada (and US I should think) is a covering for the blanket that goes inside.
The filler is usually a goose down filled blanket (for the expensive set).
However, you can put any blanket inside a duvet..A duvet cover is like a big pillow really. This way you can take the covering off and wash it.

A comforter is simply a blanket or a bedspread but puffier? (if I can explain it that way)

You can buy a comforter set so that everything matches (sheets/pillowcases/shams, etc)

Very good description of the differences!

I never got to Food Lion last night. I did go to Target and just picked up a bottle of Febreeze. There is a slight odor, but nothing unruly. I think after the bed settles into our house the smell will go away. But if it does not, I will be going and finding Odaban ASAP. Thanks for the tip!

Sarah - I think a comforter in the US is what we would call an eiderdown here (did you ever hear of those when you were growing up?). A very thin, but firm duvet. Very common in the US. Sometimes called a coverlet too. They're getting very popular here at the moment and are often used for decorative purposes folded at the end of the bed.

Whereas our duvets are very puffy quilts either hollowfibre filled or feather/down then put inside a duvet cover.

I do remember the good old eiderdown! You don't hear that word much these days though! (I will re-add it to my vocabulary!)

I see though! All these language differences can cause a bit of confusion!
I assumed that it might be a duvet or something!

Thank you for the help to clarify the comforter thing!
