Just thought I'd let you all know how many animals we (Wayside Waifs) got adopted out this past Thursday through today. Not as many as we should've, as last year we had 120, but we started off low on dogs (I know, this is a cat site! hehe), so we just didn't have enough to get out...

Dogs: 43
Cats: 17 (including my FAVORITE cat hooray!!!)
Rabbits: 1

I had to count those from listings in my email, so I might be off lol

I know two cats (two more of my favorites --sisters we wanted to go home together) had pendings when I left today, and might get approved tomorrow -- so there are probably a few more like that...

I was telling my boyfriend a few days ago "I feel sorry for whoever does follow ups on Saturday's adoptions, because there's going to be LOTS" Got the follow up list today for yesterday and today...... of COURSE, I got Saturday... 25 animals to follow up on!! I'm gonna be on the phone all night (and three different nights at that! We do 3 day, 3 week and 3 month follow ups). *sigh*

Just wanted to share a photo I took of one of the kitties that went home today!! Sorry it is large.

Hey!!!! I was asked to help out on the NMHP's booth - did Wayside combine with them or did you have your own booth? (I had to work this weekend so couldn't cover)

Congrats on the adoptions!!!!

Thanks!!

They had their own booth run by the KC Humane Society...

What's amazing is the Barkitecture booth had lots of individualized dog houses up for silent auction (although you could see who bid what on the day you were there... but I guess you didn't know about previous days or upcoming days... semi-silent I guess)... All the proceeds will go to Wayside Waifs (so we staffed that booth for them)! I thought that was really cool of them to do.

I picked up these nifty rubber brooms link ... They are a godsent for cat hair stuck in my carpet!! We have been here only 5 months and that fur is just imbeded so danged far in the carpet. Gross!!!

As I figured, I was off on my numbers. I might call down and get an offical count, but I know I forgot 2 dogs on that list (they went home, but are not on any of my follow-up lists, which is weird)... and forgot to add on two more bunnies. So up the count by four!

Sometimes the world is just a bit too small.

Went to work today to have a coworker (and close friend enough to have stood up in her wedding) tell me that they bought a dog house in a silent auction at the Wayside Waifs booth. She was telling me about it because her husband never buys anything on a whim and just went up and put a bid on it for $275.

They set it up in their garage with dog food kibbles leading up the stairs to the second level. She was anxious to get home to see if the dogs used it today. They have 2 small shizu's.

Small world isn't it!?!?!?!

OMG! Did they buy "Room with a view" or whatever it was with the deck thingie on top?!?! I voted that one as my favorite!! It was a tough choice, but I thought it was cool as hell to have a deck on top!!!!

Tell her we appreciate their bid on the house -- it will help us feed and house animals in need! <3<3

She said it had a deck up top and will be bringing in pictures to work tomorrow. I'll have to ask if it was called "room with a view".

She knows that I volunteer at local shelters and I have already thanked her for helping out the animals. After reading your post last night, I knew that it all went to Wayside and told her that in case she didn't know that already.

I'm sad that I missed the show. My friend told me that the greyhound group was next door to you - being formerly owned by 2 greyhounds, I love to *scritch* those dogs. I would have been helping out NMHP and KCGRRRR (golden retrievers) had I been there. I usually man the booth or take the dogs for walks around the show.

I work with a great bunch of folks. This woman has given me large bags of dog food in the past to bring the shelter and others have donated food, litter and one time got a huge dog kennel with bed (big bucks). It's fun to come into work and find bags of donated items on my desk. My reputation precedes me.

Wow, that is awesome! I wish everyone was so giving.

Whenever I "grow up" and get a house, I definitely am looking into adopting a former racing greyhound. My mom think I'm a freak (she thinks they are weird looking), but I love them to pieces!! They are so beautiful!

There is a woman on this site who just started to volunteer at the greyhound group in Florida. You have to be very careful integrating them with cats. Some of them simply can't make the adjustment with them. After my 2 (which I was very lucky with), and all the cats I have now, I can't take a chance with them unless I can get one very young. They are trained to go after furry lures, and I witnessed mine more than once start to take off after the feral cats outside when they bolted. Fortunately they were well trained and stopped when I called them, but I could never entirely trust them outside on their own. The inside cats didn't bolt so there was no issue there.

Big couch potatoes they are, and I gave them a sofa as a bed.
