Hi everyone -
My cat Candy was diagnosed with liver parenchymal disease a few months ago. Her liver levels were high and she was dehydrated. She was put on fluids and 2 antibiotics, and 2 weeks later the levels (ALT) were down, and were down again 2 weeks after that. Up to 140 is normal (as I understand it) and hers were 156. Vet thinks it was because she had a urinary tract infection but said the liver levels were now good. She was not switched to a special diet and the vet did not feel that a liver biopsy was needed because the levels were much, much, better, although she said there's a small chance of chronic active hepatitis.
She now has breathing problems and prednisolone was prescribed, as well as an inhaler. I'm getting conflicting reports about it's effect on her liver. Does anyone know if it will hurt her liver?
Also, if anyone knows of a good book on liver disease in cats or a good website it would be greatly appreciated. I've read some articles but they are very basic and not enough info.
Thanks for your help,
Jill and Candy
