I have been taking care of a stray cat for a couple of weeks. It has nasty sores behind both ears. I thought they were injuries but now not so sure... may be some kind of skin condition. How can I tell?

Could he be scratching at his ears, causing the sores, because of an ear infection or ear mites?

Whatever they are, they will almost certainly need an antibiotic and possibly other meds to clear up. Is there any way you can trap this poor cat and take it to a vet?

I haven't seen any scratching but sores are in the same place behind both ears, quarter size round and she/he rubs the scabs off daily. I thought at first that it had been victim of some kind of animal attack but then thought it could be some kind of ringworm type thing. hopefully, I can get him/her to the vet.

I am not really sure what I am doing - trying to reply to Petnurse to say thanks for the advice and now I really think the poor thing has a bad case of ear mites. Is there anything I can do about it until I can get it to the vet? Any home remedies that would be safe?

no, not really any good home remedies, best thing is try to get him into the vet. If you have a good relationship with your vet you can try talking to him/her and see what they suggest.
