Hi everyone

I was just wandering if you had good friends at school which you lost contact with? This happened to me and I found out this morning that my friend died in a car accident last night. It had been a year since I'd seen her, since school.

I cant believe that this has happened. I know it sounds selfish but I feel so guily...why didnt I pick up the phone and call her or send an email. Now shes gone and I dont know what to do

I'm sorry to post such a sad topic but I really needed to get this out and I know how wonderful and understanding you all are here.

Claudia...I have had a similar experiance. I had a friend who I also lost contact with. While in school he was my bestfriend, I couldnt imagine life without him. I ended up moving and so did he, and in result we lost contact with eachother. It wasnt until about 3 months ago I was reading all the names of Fallen Heros from the Iraq War, and there he was. If you need to talk, You can send me a message.

We have a website over here in the UK called "Friends Reunited" where you can register with your name, where you lived, what school you went to, and even your neighbours!.

I don't know if it's just the UK that does it but try looking it up because it may now be worldwide.

I've had two people look me up through it and one was an old neighbour that i hadnt seen for 24 year and now were in regular contact.

In the US we have a site called classmates.com where you can list every school you have ever gone too and look others up as well. It sounds somewhat equivelant to what you're talking about Susan.

I'm so sorry to hear your story Cookie. I know how awful that feels. But the most you can do is remember her for the good times that you had and remember that she appreciated you friendship, whether you had spoken to her in a year or not, and that you had touched her life in some important way.

*hugs* to you. In this day and age, most everyone is very busy. Lives take different paths after school. I'm sorry you feel guilty. It's easy to loose touch. There is nothing that you could have done to prevent it. Express your sorrow/condolences to her family and remember the good times you shared.
No one can take your memories away.

Maybe it would help her family if you write to them expressing your sympathy and including one lovely story about her that would give them some comfort.

I agree about Friends Reunited and similar sites - I made contact again with three old school friends through it - including a guy I had a crush on for two years at school, and now we keep in touch by email and even meet occasionally and laugh about it!

Claudia, I am so sorry for the sadness and awkwardness you mut feel. What a great idea Jenny had, and I'm sure your heartfelt card would be so very special for her parents to know that she was the type of person who, years later, would be remembered before the accident, not after. Let t hem know that fact. Big hugs to you.
