Welcome Kelleye

Its a good walking program to start as you don't wanto to overdo anything in the beginning of a fitness program

Me on the otherhand am suffering from overdoing it last nite!!
I are really reducing the number for flower/shrub beds I have to clean up yet.
The end is near!!!!!
But anyhow I thought I would try running outside with my Sony discman.
Well that didn't work too much bouncing around so I turned around and went back inside and continued on the treadmill. I did 2.66 miles on the treadmill last night in addition to the 0.8 miles I did outside which is wayyyyyyyyyyy
over the 2.75 miles am currently it.
I tried to stretch out well last nite but my back and neck are stiff plus my shins hurt from overdoing it!!

So tonite I'm not going to overdo it and then take Saturday off from running as I'm going to be a lumberjack a good part of the day and I will get enough exerise from that.

Darn it! I had every intention of working out last night, even looking forward to it...and then...my dad came to my work with some shrimp for my BF (I don't eat them), so I had to get them straight home. Oh well, if I go tonight and Saturday AM, I'll still get 4 workouts in this week!

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this thread and need all the support and motivation I can get.
I used to be in pretty good shape (being in the Army and having to exercise helped!)

Anyway, that was a while ago and since I've been out have found it hard to
get motivated and stay with any kind of exercise program. I'd really like to get back into running, maybe just a few miles several times a week. At this point, I walk maybe once or twice a week, if I'm lucky. Would also like to loose some weight. (Okay, doctor says I need to) I've gain between 30-40 lbs in the past few years and that's enough. I've had people tell me it's not that noticable, but I notice in the way I feel and because so many clothes no longer fit.

This is the time to get serious about exercising again, while I'm still relatively young and healthy. I heard in a recent class that if you do something for 21 days straight then it will become a habit. So, with all of you as my witnesses, I'm committing to fit a walk in every day for the next three weeks with the goal of working up to running again. I'd also like to lose 20 lbs. Growing up with a mom who's a dietician my eating habits are pretty good, but I confess to being addicted to taco bell and chocolate.

I've also thought about buying some kind of excercise equipment to get a good aerobic workout when the weather isn't so great. I don't have a lot of space or money to spend, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry this is so long. Thanks for your support. I'll be cheering for all of you too!
Eileen

Welcome Eileen! It's great to hear that you're ready to commit yourself to an exercise regimen!! Everyone here will be more than happy to help you out. As far as the aerobics equipment goes, if you're on a tight budget and don't want to splurge on expensive ellipticals or a treadmill you might want to try getting a workout video. There are so many different kinds that if you do a search online you'll definitely be able to find one that suits your style. That way you're only spending a small amount of money and yet will still have the means to get a great cardio workout at home! Good luck to you!!!!!!

This week I've just been in my regular pattern. I went and did cardio on Monday, Tuesday I taught a class, yesterday I taught a class, and today I have to teach a class. I'm hoping to get in some more cardio time possibly tomorrow. With the last week of the semester coming up next week though it's hard to find spare time!!

Hope everyone's weekend is starting off right!

Welcome Eileen

A walking program sounds like a good start. THe best think you could buy is a good pair of shoes. I'm a big fan of Asics, but it really depends on what you are looking for in the shoes. And don't increase mileage too much 10%/week
otherwise you might get sore/tired and become unmotivated.
I started back walking to running (not fast by any means) on March 1st and have lost 11# so far. I still have some more to go yet. Don't give up those favorite foods either-just reduce the number of times you have them.

Good luck and we will be here for you!!

Welcome Eileen!
Wow, two newcomers in one day! I'm glad you've come here to find motivation and support with your workouts. If it helps any, I've heard it only takes doing something 10 times before it becomes a habit
So get through these first 10 workouts and you'll have it made girl! Katherine's advice about a workout video is right-on. You can buy tapes for as little as $5 and DVDs as little as $10. I found it hard to stay motivated working out at home, though, so I joined a gym. Renee (RockCat) and I both go to Curves, which is only $29/month. It's all-women and the environment is very fun and supportive. I can guarantee you that Cincy has a few Curves, so maybe check one out if you decide to go to the gym route.
Gail, way to go on that treadmill. You keep increasing your distance more and more; that is truly inspirational!
And I bet your yard is looking absolutely beautiful with all the work you've put into it!
Kellye- if it's motivation you need to keep up your workout routine, stick with us! That's what we're here for

Renee- don't worry about not getting to Curves yesterday; you've done really good otherwise this week and, admittedly, I'd make shrimp a priority every now and then too

Katherine- girl, I don't even need to tell you anything. You're always kicking butt, workout-wise!!!!
Hey, what do y'all think of this icon:
Is that too great?!?!

ha ha!!!

I don't care what anyone else says-you still got it!!!!!!

Fran-where is the stepper.

I went to Target during lunch and bought a Sony (The price leader) armband radio. I'll have to see how it works tonite.
I checked into ipod/Mp3 players and you need windows 2000 and I still have window 98. Plus lots of time to do all the up/downloading.
I might ask one of my nephews tomorrow if he would do this for me if I bought him one????????????
