I have a SanDisk player myself and the sound is just incredible. It stores far more music than I could listen to in a few cardio trips (which are usually 40 min at a time for me) so there's plenty of space. If I were you I would just check out all of the various MP3 players and find out which one might be best for you. Circuit City has a large selection and the people there can answer any questions you may have. That's where mine came from (as Brendan is an employee there). Also, the vast majority of MP3 players now come with a workout armband that holds the player on your arm while you workout. It's QUITE handy!!
I agree, I had a RCA Lyra Mp3 before my parents got me the ipod shuffle. It definitely did the job it needed to do.

As long as you're at a legit gym, the yoga instructor HAS to have a specific yoga certification and has to renew it every 2 years (meaning they have to do a bunch of continuing education workshops and seminars). It may just be that your reaction is emotional. If you don't mind this reaction, I wouldn't worry about it, if it bothers you or makes you uncomfortable, simply talk to your yoga instructor right before or after class. As instructors we HAVE to make ourselves available to answer questions about the class. While I can't always answer all questions that get posed to me, I always do my best as I want people to keep coming back, so I'm sure your instructor will do the same. Hope that helps a bit.
I do trust the teacher, and I know in the long run it's good, but sometimes the morning after I feel like I slept 12 hours.

No pain though. and my neck mobility is the best it's been in years.

I led the Relay for Life warm-up this morning and it went quite well. I had to be up on a stage HOLDING a mic (which I've never done when teaching aerobics, we always have headsets) and a few guys from the crowd came up on stage with me, which made it a lot easier for me since I could use them to make jokes and things (they were being quite silly). A lot of people participated from all across the field (they could hear and see me at any point on the track) and it went well. Just thought you guys would like to know.

How is the start to everyone else's weekend? Anyone got any plans to work out today??

Good luck in your workouts everyone!!!

That sounds like it went great Katherine!!!
We're proud of you!!!

Today I am going to the mall with my friend to keep her busy. I didn't get to the gym yesterday
But I did go 4 days in a row this week.
I'm pretty proud of that. My rear end is so sore from lifting for my glutes.... OWwwwwww.

Yay Katherine!!! I bet you did an awesome job, and you're probably relieved its over with.

Beth, I was bad last night too and did not get to the gym. But like you I did work out Mon - Thurs. so I think I deserved my Friday off.

Right now is my least favorite time in the world of teaching. I have to write 46 report card comments this weekend. Its a gorgeous day out and I am stuck inside at the comptuer.

Brendan and I plan to get to gym once he wakes up (he works overnights...so he sleeps until about 3pm).

Thanks guys! It feels like such a relief to have that over. It was stressing me out all week long!!

Great job you guys for going 4 days this past week! That's awesome!!!

Ali that's great that you're going with your friend to the mall. I'm sure she appreciates it more than she can tell you! Besides, if she's a big browser you'll end up getting LOTS of walking in!

Sorry you're stuck in Beryl.
My mom was a teacher when I was growing up and I remember her having to do the same thing. Teachers are not paid nearly enough for the amount of work they put in and the stuff they put up with!! I hope it goes by faster than you think it will, and that you and your Brendan have a great workout at the gym!!

Way to go Katherine, way to go

Way to go Katherine, way to go

Way to lead those Relay folks and conquer your nervousness!!!
It is always easier when you have great involvement from the crowd! (Same goes when giving presentations
)
Beryl and Beth- wow, great job working out 4 times this week. Daaaaaaaaaang!

I only worked out 3 times, but I did an extra lap one day and pushed myself real hard yesterday, so I'm happy with that.
Katherine, I've been doing that plank exercise 2 times each day (even on days I don't work out) and I've been doing it the way you teach- for a full minute at a time. MAN that is rough! but the muscles under my stomach are really tightening, so something is working.
Beryl, that stinks that you have to spend your weekend working
But you are a teacher, and teachers make ALL the difference in the world. What grade/subject do you teach?
OK, I have an idea y'all. Would those of you who are active on this thread mind rating it? The way I see it, if people see a few stars next to the title of the thread, they may be inclined to drop in from time to time

Anywho, back to laundry....then it's the dreaded task of washing/sanitizing the kits' litterboxes!!!!!

Amy, I had tons of laundry/cleaning to do this weekend as well. Its just one of those no fun weekends for me.

I am a kindergarten teacher. This is my second year teaching, and as much as I complain about my job I love it too. AND, I definitely get my excercise at work!
Keeping track of two groups of 6 year olds definitely keeps me moving during the day!

That's great that you're noticing a difference in your abs Amy! It's so wonderful when you can notice results like that!!! I'm also glad you've been enjoying (well, if that's the right word for it) the plank exercise! I love doing isometric exercises in general, but I definitely plank the most! Great job!!!

Went to the mall with my friend after lunch at Olive Garden. I did the soup and salad (mmmm 2 HUGE bowls of salad) and I also had a cheese stick, some mushroom caps and a few bits of fried calamari. Mmmmmmmmmmm

I only spent like 30 bucks all day too... work out pants and undies.

yay Beth!! I love buying new workout clothes. It makes me so much more motivated to get my butt to the gym.

Speaking of, I just got done with 45 min. on the stairmill. Then Brendan and I went to a lovely dinner at TGI Fridays.

Mmmmm. going out to eat is sooo rewarding after a hard workout (also defeating sometimes too... did you get cheese cake?
) I'm soooo proud that you can do the stairmill. I am way too clumsy to pick up my feet and watch the monitor.
I'd end up cracking my skull open on the floor lol.

ya know, the stair mill really scared me at first, but my trainer challenged me to try it (i was bored with the elipitical). And now the stair mill is my new fav. I like it because I can read while I workout.
At first I did not like it because it did feel kinda akward, but I think I've got the hang of it now.

No dessert for us tonight.
We were good. Last night we went out to eat too (Brendan and I rarely cook...its a bad habit of ours). and last night we did share a VERY decadant dessert (a brownie with toffe and buttscotch and fuge, and ice cream...OH MY!) So yes, I laid off the sweets this evening.

anyone planning on getting a workout in Sunday?

I spent the day with a 14 month old and a 3 year old...that is enough! Took a friends kids out for the day so they could get things done, I am exhausted!

I did the track for 15minutes last night so that was ok, but just ok. I want to get up to 30 minutes sooner than I am.

How's everyone lookin' as far as Monday workouts go?
Beth, what kind of work out pants did you get? Anything especially comfy?
Throwing this out to the whole group: What DO y'all wear to work out? Anyone have any special recommendations as far as workout clothes go? It's so much easier to be motivated to work out when you have good clothes/shoes to work out in!

Fran, have you tried any of those ab exercises that I posted? That is an amazing workout in and of itself. You'll feel the burn for sure!

Hmmm....well, I do know that it is very important to go slowly (when they say to lift slowly, pause, etc. , it's for a reason- 1)it increases the efficacy of the workout and 2) it is better on your back).
Also, do you do any stretching afterwards? By stretching your back afterward, it's less likely to hurt the next day!

Finally, try to keep your back as straight as possible when doing exercises. Good posture has a LOT to do with how you feel the next day!
