I am trying out for a popular local radio station's Traffic Princess spot for the morning drive!
101.5 Radio here in Seattle has an open casting (voicing??) call out for anyone and everyone. You have to read their script or create one of your own and then call them for a 30 second demo tape they'll make of your audition! Just 1 take. DO OR DIE. Mine is tomorrow morning!!!! HECK! I didn't get that job I wanted, maybe this is my destiny!
So wish me luck everyone. I will either fall flat on my face or maybe I will be in the top 10 to audition on the air!

P.S. But of course! TCS is the perfect place for luck with everyone knowing how my voice sounds.

Everyone? Well I must be a no one, because I don't know how your voice sounds. Are you just getting over a cold or something?
We know you look like a princess, so I'm convinced that you sound like one too.

Oh yeah, and good luck!

oh Ryan, you are so sweet. Isn't this great that looks simply do not matter for something like this? How refreshing! If I make the on-air audition, I intend to show up in curlers and pajamas. Or like this:

...and I was being sarcastic, bud! Nobody can hear anyone's voice on here!

E your voice is terrific for on air- just practice before a mirror so you know what you look like and you know what you are going to say. I wish we got the station here, but we don't- reception in this area sucks! Good luck!

Well I for one hope you don't get it E. If you do, then you'll become big and famous and forget about all of us little people here on TCS! I'd miss you!

At the kitty's beck and call
Ooooh Eddie good luck.

A couple of tips I learned when I was given some training for dealing with the media.

It is so much harder to sound "alive" when you're doing a radio interview. Now, I'm not trying to scare you - but knowing beforehand helps you to prepare.

So...what was told to do? Tape myself and listen back to my voice - I started off so monotone and boring - when they played the tape back in the training session I almost sent myself to sleep!
. But by the time I finished I actually sounded like I had some life in my body.

So - tape yourself. Practice tonight.

Also - to help you get that sing-song quality. Try reading a child's story book. My media trainer drilled into me - use your "Noddy" voice. She couldn't believe it after my "flat" interview when she heard me read a children's story.

So, I use my "Noddy" voice - it's so much more expressive.

I don't know whether it will help - but GOOD LUCK anyway
I really hope you get it - what a treat that would be for the folks of Seattle.

LOL!! I'll try not to sound too dead when I speak.
I'm bringing home my boss' dictator, you know those hand-held things with the micro tape inside? Then I can rehearse and see where the bad areas are. I want to memorize every word of the script so it's effortless and then I can throw in those personality things. I was in a lot of theater classes for fun in college as electives. I'm just gonna be myself and have fun. Thank God I do have a job!
