Hi all

Well, it's been 5 days since Cosette became part of the family. So far, so crazy! She is a nut!!!
I guess it's just her being a typical kitten, but she wants to play all of the time and likes to explore EVERYTHING! She's been staying in the bathroom vanity during the day when I'm gone and at night. If I'm home and she's stuck in the vanity room, she cries bloody murder until I let her out!
I've kept her and Eponine pretty much separated. Eponine got curious by Tuesday night and would sniff at the door to Cosette's room every time she cried. So, last night I decided I would start letting them be in the same room together under supervision. Well, Eponine is not Cosette's biggest fan, but at least she is not scared of her. When Cosette was running around the room, Eponine jumped up on the dresser, looked down at her, and just made growls and whining noises. I guess she was on the dresser to establish her rightful place as the alpha cat. Cosette basically ignored Eponine and continued to play with Bradley, me, and everything else in-between. We also let her get in bed with us and cuddle while we watched TV. She's not big on cuddling yet (not when there are so many new things to explore), but I have a feeling she will be a major lovey-dovey. So far, her favorite toys are the cat dancer and Bradley's shoes!

So that's what she's been up to so far. She's eating healthy and drinking plenty of water. She is also almost TOO good at using her littler box if you know what I mean!

We figured out how to get her on a good sleeping schedule. I bought her a kitten cozy pad that you heat in the microwave for warmth. So I heat it up every night and each morning when I go to work. She is starting to learn that that's sleepy-bye time for kitty

If anyone's interested, I'll keep you all updated on her progress and I will have tons of pictures to post! Needless to say, I love that little kitten more than life itself already!!!!

At the kitty's beck and call
Interested? Are you kidding? I can't wait to hear how Eponine and Cosette are getting on.

So lovely to hear that she's stamping her character on the place already. She's gorgeous.

Poor Eponine - she'll come round.

Thanks Beth
And I hope you're right about Eponine. I'm SO scared about hurting my big girl's feelings. I hate that she is probably feeling jealous of the new kitten. Did you experience jealousy among your kitties? How long did it take for adjustments to be made amongst themselves?
Oh my goodness, is this what it's like to have real children?????

Pretty much - but at least kitties don't come telling tales on each other....no, actually strike that. Felicity comes to fetch us if Tippy scratches the furniture

There was major jealousy between Tippy and Felicity - but Tippy had hardly met any other cats -she was frightened of them. In the end they came to a kind of grudging acceptance. Although they look as if they don't like one another, they get really concerned if the other has been told off or is under the weather - they hang around and won't leave the other one.

Neither of them get on with Adelaide at all - she has become very territorial.

Lily likes all of them - but the only one that likes Lily in return is Tippy - strangely enough.

So, yes - jealousy problems. Felicity still hasn't gotten over the introduction of Adelaide.

But having said that they all have their own places and don't interfere with the others. I would describe it as an "accommodation" rather than friendship.

Felicity the tattletale!
I love it! And God bless little Lily for trying to be everyone's friend
Thank you for sharing your kitty clan's jealousy issues
... I can have a more realistic view of what to expect or what NOT to expect with my little ladies!! Gonna have to do what you did and make sure that there are special places in the house where both of them feel comfortable and in-charge.
Bradley is building a kitty condo this weekend (he's a very handy guy to have around!), so hopefully the tiered condo will help them establish their heirarchy...we'll see and of course I'll keep y'all updated!!

I can hear those growls like it was Rosie with Sophie again

It's looking good Amy despite the growling
Just keep making sure you give Eponine scritches so she doesn't feel left out when she sees both of you playing with Cosette

Definitely making sure I do that Susan
Unfortunately, Eponine gets so irritated when Cosette is in site that she'll growl and try to bite my hand whenever I try to pet her
The only time of day now when Eponine still really lets me love on her is when I first get home from work and when I wake up in the morning. Those have always been our most special times of day together. I just hate her feeling jealous and left out (even though we try to include her in absolutely everything)

How long did it take Rosie and Sophie to work out their jealousy/territory issues?

Of course we're interested! What a cute little kitty! When I first brought Tripod home, Oliver was NOT happy about it. He was mad at me for awhile too, but he got over all that and now they are best buddies.
One thing I did to try and ward off the jealousy bit is ALWAYS greet Oliver first.

Don't worry Amy she will come round!. Rosie hated both of us, and like you when i put my hand out for her to sniff at she would growl and bat me with her paw as if to say "I HATE YOU!!!"
. It used to upset me so much seeing her like this, but then two weeks later everything was quiet and Sophie had wandered off into what i thought was the kitchen for some food but she wasn't there?!.

I ran upstairs expecting Rosie to have her pinned down but this is what i found!

It brought tears to my eyes i can tell you knowing that she had accepted Sophie

ME!!! I WANT UPDATES!!!!

I know it's hard right now keeping Cosette locked up but you have to keep them separated until you are sure that they will get along O.K.

My last intro with Mama and Megan took about a month where they were confined to the den while I was a work and then when I came home the others were confined and they roamed. They really liked that idea. Mama and Megan played and roamed the house and then one day...... YIKES! Mama looked and me and said, "HEY YOU! PUT THOSE CATS BACK IN THEIR ROOMS!" She didn't quite understand that she was going to have to share space with them.

But having said that they all have their own places and don't interfere with the others. I would describe it as an "accommodation" rather than friendship.
This is the way my cats are also. Except Megan and Lizbeth play every morning. Good Luck!

Susan, that is too beautiful! You are so lucky that Rosie came around so wonderfully; your girls are so sweet together! And it does sound like they started off EXACTLY as my girls have! Have my fingers crossed that I can see the same with mine!

Aye aye captain! I'll get to work on adding some more Cosette pictures to the Fur Pictures thread. In particular, I need to show you Cosette playing with her new "boyfriend", AKA Bradley's shoe!

I can't wait to hear more updates!

I'm so glad to hear that Cosette is feeling comfortable. Poor Eponine, and poor you, it sucks to feel that they're upset at you but she'll come around. Once she sees you still love her the same AND that Cosette isn't a threat she'll be happy as a clam.
Waffle was so upset about Coco when Tiff moved in, and she still doesn't like him or Tiff (since she smells like him) for that matter but that's only because Coco insists on jumping on Waffle. The times that he just leaves her alone are totally fine. They actually manage to sit near each other with no problems, so I'm sure your girls will work out a life together!

Susan- that pic is just tooooooooooo sweet!

Thanks Katherine

Poor Waffle, having to duck out of Coco's way to avoid a pouncing! Sonds like maybe Coco has a crush on Waffle, but Waffle is obvlivious because, of course, she is love with a certain guy named Brendan- the hussy! Hehe
