Oh I'm jumping out of my skin!!!

My sister-in-law is having her baby today - she went in for a c-section at 10.30. It is now 11.30 and we haven't heard anything!! Aaaaargh!!

It is the first baby for my family - my eldest brother's first child. First grandchild, first niece, first everything. We are all so excited and our patience hasn't really been what it should be because we are all so looking forward to welcoming our little girl into the world!!

Oooh she's arrived!! 7lb2 with thick black hair, feeding nicely and currently fast asleep! She knows her name but we don't - I think we are all going to be introduced in person.

Yes yes, a little girl!! 7lb2 with lots of dark hair, just like her Mum.

Woo hoo!!

Horrible nasty big brother won't tell us her name yet - I think they want to introduce us in person. But the suspense is killing me...lol. He had a little catch in his voice when he told me she was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen - so gorgeous I just love men with babies!! Especially when that man is my darling brother!

Here is a photo of his wife, Tanya, when she was pregnant. I had a glamour themed party for my 30th, and this was her interpretation - hilarious!! (She's actually got long, straight black hair almost down to her waist - this was great
)

Great idea! Actually, I sent Paul a text saying, `I know why it's a secret. You called her Sarah and you want to wait until I get there before you tell us. Aw shucks I understand'...lol.

Of course they didn't call her Sarah! But it's very exciting because we really have NO idea - they never even gave us a hint the whole pregnancy, so it will be a true surprise!

I do, too. Apparently there is an Aboriginal tradition that the first person to hear a child's name should be the child itself. I think this is what Paul and Tan wanted to do and I actually really like that idea. It gives the child such initial ownership and respect, I think. And they are definitely the kind of people who will respect their children highly.

I never knew of this as an aboriginal tradition - makes great sense though!

I think I am going to discuss this with Chris and see if this is something that he wants to do as well with our baby.

does this tradition mean that after the child hears the name you can tell people over the phone and such? or does it believe that everyone should be told in person?

I think that once the child knows everyone can find out however you like - I think Paul and Tan are going to introduce the family in person, but other than that I wouldn't think so - I mean in this day and age it's really not practical. I can imagine that living in a tribe, obviously, everyone would know in person, but nowadays you can't really do that. So I think they are doing baby first, then immediate family in person and then everyone else by whatever means available!

And congratulations on your pregnancy!! Are you going to find out what you're having?
