Wolfowitz as World Bank head?

Bush's nomination of Wolfowitz hasn't exactly pleased Europeans, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4358045.stm , http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4358617.stm and http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4356495.stm , but I see a positive side - he won't be influencing the Pentagon as much as in the past. Remember that this is the guy who thought U.S. troops would be greeted with open arms in Iraq. My fear is that he'll only grant aid to those countries that kowtow to the U.S.'s "greater wisdom", i.e., policies, as McNamara did.

I wasn't even going to bring this up it bothers me so much.
But your correct, maybe it will ease his pentagon influence.

Why can't we have any wise leaders anymore? Who are more than utilitarian with their views?

Actually, there was some speculation that Gordon Brown, despite not being an American, would be nominated. I personally think he would've been a better choice, because he's done a fine job as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Gordan Brown? He is going to be the next PM of UK after (or if) Blair steps down as promised.

Wolfowitz: Conflicting
1) Fear of "politicising" World Bank
Reply
2) World Bank of today is different from that of yester-years. Unlike in the military sphere, Europe and Asia have a very strong voice in the economic region
Reply
3) As head, he would still have influence to damage the World Bank
Reply
4) His stint as ambassador to Indonesia during Suharto regime and his support for it show that he is capable of working with non-democratic regime if such a regime develops. This would be helpful in dealing with parts of Asia and China
