Steroids and MLB

Does anyone really care about steroids in Major League Baseball? I think the bigger tragedy is that someone expects upwards of $20 million taxpayers dollars being spent on the investigation. Just think of what that money could do if used a nation wide spay or neutering program or to improve the 10 neediest schools in America. Can anyone else think of a better way to spend our tax dollars? If you truly are concerned with the steroid scandal please accept my apologies for my rant.

I was a huge fan of McCain when he was running for president, but my one real big concern is his obsession with sports. I'm really disheartened to see that the rest of congress is following him in this.

I really don't want people at that level of government worrying about this when their are budgets to balance and BinLadin's to find.

Of course, on the other hand, as I understand it, MLB is operating in full-blown "monopoly" mode, in violation of the Sherman Act. They've got a special dispensation from congress to do this, so if ANYONE is going to keep them in check, it might have to be the feds after all...

Why not just let everyone do steroids as much as they want? Nature will take care of it soon enough when the sports people can't reproduce or they fall over dead and then non-steroid abusing people can go back to playing sports. Survival of the NATURALLY fittest.

Because, until that happens it is an unfair advantage over those who don't. Funny post, though.

What about all the pain killers Schilling took during the world series? He's lauded as a hero and a bad-ass for doing it, but wasn't that an unfair advantage?

Nothing against you, Rockcat, I'm just amazed how we act like one chemical is going to be the ruination of us all, while praising another...

Probably. I haven't followed that story.

No offense taken. So, what's your opinion about the steroids?

Personally, I could care less. If the person involved is of majority age I'm all for legalizing pot, suicide, prostitution, etc...

However, steroids are (at the moment) illegal in the US. Baseball should have been testing for them for DECADES, and the records of those caught using should be wiped.

They haven't, because "chicks dig the long-ball", and home runs sell. MLB should face conspiracy charges for helping to hide the illegal trade of steroids.

If pete rose's #1 lifetime hits record is not shown because of his gambling, then Bond's home run record should not be either.

I think pain killers is ok. Steroids is not, and I'm glad that they are finally doing something about it. Two years ago there was 90+ players that tested positive for steroids, and last year there was only 12. That's pretty good, I'm glad that they are going to start punishing players for testing positive. I agree that Bonds homerun record should be tainted.

Mark Mcgwire did not want to name any names. Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, and Curt Schilling said they have never used steroids.

I just hate to spend my tax dollars on the investigation. Personally, they should have went to a reputable doctor and then there would be nothing anyone could say. And there are reputable MDs who will prescribe.
