4 weeks ago I took in 6x2 week old kittens and hand reared them. One we are keeping, 2 have gone to very good homes, 2 are waiting for homes, or if I can place them then the vets they were found at will take them and rehome them.

The one last little kitten though worries me. She vomits. At least a couple of times a day, usually on an empty stomach. Sometimes its only bile too. All she eats is Iams canned kitten food.

This all started over a week ago and when I got the vet to check her, they thought she had a sore throat that was causing it. So they put her on Flagyl and nothing happened. Several days later and still vomiting the vet puts her on some antibiotic paste. Couple days later, the vet now thinks the sore throat is actually caused by the vomiting and not the other way around, so books her in for a barium meal and x-rays. This all came back normal too, so they dont think its a structural problem.

I really feel bad for her because she's a really bright and sweet kitten, but she cant be rehomed until this problem is sorted out.

Any suggestions?

Well today was the first day she didn't vomit in about 2 weeks. But when I took her litter sister in to get vaccinated (we are keeping her) the little sick was terribly bloated.

I got the vet to check her, and she said her tummy was quite swollen, tight and tender and she gave her an antispasmodic to help.

Any ideas whats going on or whats causing this?? I'm really worried about the poor little thing.

Please??

I'm sorry that I don't have any medical advise for you. I just wanted to pass along my good thoughts for you and your kitten. Please keep us posted.

Can you afford to have a blood panel done on at least one of the kittens? I'm surprised the vet hasn't done one yet, because that's the easiest way to figure out if the kittens might have picked up some sort of disease, or if there's something else going on.

It sounds like they are trying to track down what is wrong with this kitten. If she is vomiting more than three times an hour, she needs a vet. If she is vomitting right after she eats, you could be over feeding her, or she could have a sensitivity to the food. I would try giving her some acidolpholous powder, just a little bit with her food. You can also give her plain yogurt with active cultures to see if it helps. Have then tested for FIP yet?

Thanks for the help Hissy
She's only vomiting before meals, and really she's not eating much. Most of the time she's too miserable! Poor little sweetie. She's only been vomiting 2 or so times a day, and is hydrated, so I'm not panicing... but I do feel bad for her.

I've also been giving all of them yoghurt too, on the vets advice. I'm not sure what FIP is though...

I took her back at the vets tonight and we might have an idea... I took along a little baggie with a poop sample in it, and the vet realised that its mainly undigested food. The pain that she's in and the lack of digestion indicate to him that it may well be an allergy thats caused inflammation along her digestive tract. Because the food isn't digesting, its not passing though as well as it should and building up causing pain. He's given me enzymes to put on her food to help with digestion, and given her a shot of cortisone to help with the inflamation. If she's feeling better in 36hrs or so, we'll know we are on the right track and start on the elimination process to figure what the allergy is.

Thanks so much for everyones help and good wishes, and fingers crossed that this helps the poor baby!!
