OK, I have an album at photobucket.com, under the name ObiHawk. Head on over, if interested. We had a great time in DV, and took lots of photos. The lighting was not ideal for some (the sun and I were pointing at each other), but most of them turned out well enough. Also, I have about 7 more species of wildflower to post, but I haven't ID'ed them yet. I need to go and get a decent DV/Great Basin wildflower book to do it, so I'll do that this weekend and then post the rest. I also have a pic of Obi, and two photos from my trip to Yosemite Valley in Feb.

Wow! Truly stunning pictures!
Death Valley isn't a place I had ever considered visiting, but I had no idea how very beautiful it is!

...and Obi w/Obis is adorable!

Death Valley is blooming this year because of all the extra rainfall. It only happens every 50 years or so.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7182113/
'The winter storms that brought mudslides and death to Southern California dropped 6 inches of rain on this thirsty desert — three times more than usual — encouraging wildflower seeds to sprout. Experts say this kind of show comes once in a lifetime.'

...The normally forbidding landscape is not only alive with flowers, but fat, 3-inch-long green caterpillars that develop into Sphinx moths will come out soon to feast on the blooms, said Terry Baldino, a park ranger.

"They're the biggest, ugliest things you've ever seen," Baldino said. "And they have one thing on their mind — eating flowers."

The caterpillars and the abundance of new seeds will attract birds and small rodents, drawing in snakes and foxes in turn — a food chain that is very unusual for Death Valley, Baldino said.

Death Valley does bloom every year, it's just that with all the extra rainfall in the spring this year's bloom is much more spectacular than the average year. You wouldn't get whole carpets of flowers, and Badwater wouldn't be quite so big, either!

Where are you guys seeing Obi's pics? Am I missing something? I have noticed that when I go to some posts I'm not seeing the OP's pictures.
